Hi -

I installed the iPod adapter in the trunk.

As it's REALLY COLD here in NJ, the iPOD is freezing up and I want to route the cable and iPOD to the center console.

Before I start ripping things apart (back seat, carpet, console), I wonder if anyone has done this and can lend any experiences.

As always, thanks,

Mark

I routed mine to the glove box. Very short run.

First... why mount the adapter in the trunk?

I assume that the adapter is tied into the radio.

Pull out the cabling and adapter, take out the interior of the center console, cut a hole big enough in the center console box to run the cable into the box, run the cable from the radio to the center console (you can slide the cable underneath the sides of the console), mount the adapter in the box, reassemble.

My iPod interface plugs into the back of the radio. I pulled the radio pluged everything in velcroed the interface under the dash near the obd port and ran my iPod cable under the center console into the storage compartment. Why on earth did you put it in the trunk? I say redo it. I bought mine through Pie Electronics.

Sounds like he is using the one that requires you to disconnect the CD Changer then the interface connects through that wiring. You do get steering wheel controls for the Ipod.

Anyway I would route the wiring through the trunk and under the door stills, under the DS seat, and to the console

+1

There's a hole in the upper left of the wall been the cabin and the trunk. Feed the wire through there, then down between the rear seat back and door frame, then pop off the door sills, under the driver's seat to the console.

P.I.E is your best bet.

I need to upgrade adapters some day for the steering wheel controls. I better call PIE direct again as I have their adaptor for the stocker unit and now a replacement chip I installed inside the adaptor to accomidate Escape radio. I'll have to see what my options are for steering wheel/Escape I suppose.

Hi -

Sorry that I haven't logged in for a while.

I tried to connect the adapter to the back of the radio but the radio has a male connection - As does the adapter.

So, I went into the trunk to connect it directly to the CD changer - The connector to the CD changer is a female (keep it clean!) connector.

I was thinking that I'd check for a salvage MM with CD changer to see if I could get 10" of wire from the Radio end and the CD end to try to make my own adapter so that I could get a connection to the back of the radio.

Make sense?

Mark

By time you do all that work you can have a pug-n-play solution... see post #8.

I bought the adapter from Logjam but the connector at the back of the radio is male - As is the connector for the adapter.

Did I miss an adapter (M-F) from Logjam?

I've run signal wires straight up the middle of the car before, from the center of the trunk area, through the wall behind the rear seatback, down under the seat, under the carpet, held in place along the side of the driveshaft hump (not directly on top, because people can step there) with some duct tape or what have you, straight up to the head unit. I liked that route, as it kept the signal wires far away from the power feed.

It's not really easier than the under-the-doorsill route, as you still have to remove one front seat to be able to get under the carpet - and the rear seatback. Unless, with the under-the-doorsill route, you route the wire above the carpet under the drivers seat - then that route becomes much easier. I wouldn't do it that way, though - someones foot will eventually find it and yank on it.

Ordered mine through Pie Electronics. Pluged right into the CD changer outlet behind the radio and full steering wheel controls. No extra wires and feeding junk from the trunk to the front. It's so easy. Even a caveman can do it :)

The adapter should plug in between the harness and the back of the radio. You should have a male & a female connector on the adapter.

You need either one of these.

PIE FRDW/PC-POD2
iPod to factory radio interface for Ford vehicles, installs at 12-pin pre-wire

PIE FRD03/PC-POD2
iPod to factory radio interface for Ford vehicles, installs to 24 & 16-pin connectors at headunit

I think that I'm missing a connector or got the wrong kit.

I'll check with Logjam. Thanks!

I just got confirmation from Logjam that they will take care of my setup.

The people at Logjam are wonderful to work with - They helped me out with everything.
