View Full Version : Does Everyone Want to Race You in the 'Rauder?

Hi -
I've noticed that everyone on the road (Mommy Vans, Old people in Camrys, old junker/rotted out Hondas, etc.) has to chase me down in the MM.
I'm not saying that I'm "Flyin' Low" at all times but if I'm the first in line at a red light, I'm going to hit it a bit to get out into clean road space.
As soon as I hit 50-60 (on a so designated roadway), everyone who I left in the dust is clawing their way back up to me.
Any similar experiences?
I hope that this is "Drag Racing Round-up" forum-Worthy.

Lots of people think these cars came from the factory supercharged so they want to see how fast it is. I'm always more than happy to keep that myth alive and give them a taste. My personal favorite is to hit my blow off valves and watch the ricer kids jaws drop:cool4:

Haven't had a single one in two years.
I think it has to do with the way you drive. By brother was driving my car for about 15 one day following me and someone tried to race him in a 03 mustang.
Nope, Can't get mom's in vans, or old ladies in Camery's or kids in clunkers to take me on, too small a town.
Around here yes. I can tell part of a very recent one: At a red light, I casually reach up and turn off the heater. Amy looks over and says "That means we're going to race them, doesn't it." In keeping with the no kill story policy, that is all I will say.

They usually slow down or start hiding things. Probably because of all the crown vic police vehicles and many types of unmarked cruisers. Even worse now with the snow tires and rims!

I'm not talking about REAL cars I'm talking about moms, grandpaws/grandmaws, etc. - No racing at all. Just lettin her loose from a red light - Everybody has
I'm just talking about the day-to-day, driving (with me getting on it - A bit) and the need for those who don't have a 32V DOHC under the hood to overcompensate.
No one - Other than me and those replying with the affirmative have experienced this?
Maybe Southern NJ is a hot bed of drag racing Wanna-bees?

I'm rarely in a rush so if minivan A-holes want to go I let them. They'd probably end up wrecking me anyways. I find low and slo works good for me. Besides it gives people out mowing their lawns more time to view the Marauder as I cruise by.

I busted a couple of young guys in a F150 last night after they came up to the red light revving their motor up. The first week that I got my car I pulled out of the parking lot and goosed it. I got a little side ways and rode it out nicely. There was a guy in a newer Acura (pretty nice) that rode up beside us and said "Man I love your car!". My husband just leaned back so he could see that I was driving. :)

September 2010 - 76 west toward Valley Forge - Around 10 pm eastern - CAMARO. Lets just say chevy should stick to making trucks :banana2: The guy assumed because he had more horsepower my Marauder was a squalking duck. It's not always the car, it's the mean bastard driving it. Also everytime I see a grand prix or monte carlo they think its Nascar. I hate hearing ppl say " its a stock car" Then I have to remind them.. " your car goes no where near what the stock cars do. I like to keep up the public idea that these cars were fast and just let dopey ricers rev their engines and take off next to me at lights while I just slowly ease out. Let them keep wondering. ;)
If its go time, the heat and radio get turned off then I get real tense and stare at the light. :D

I lived in South Jersey for about 3 years back in 1980-1983 and actually kinda liked it where I was. At the time, I was working in downtown Philadelphia and commuting from Lindenwold on the PATCO High Speed line. BTW == that's off EXIT 3. ;)
Oh yeah. Last night on the way home, an Army guy in a Miata lined up next to me at a Red Light. He kept looking over at the MM. That one was over in about 60 feet. :D

Why does everyone turn off the heat/AC? The PCM shuts down the A/C compressor for like 15 sec. under WOT so I have been told.

People pretty much never challenge me any more, except for people I KNOW are not even half the car I've got, in which case I laugh and ignore. I guess you reach a point where your exhaust is SOOO loud, no matter if you're fast or not people just don't want to tango.
Not that it really matters anyways, I've payed my stupid tax enough in the past to not bother with that kind of business any more really. That and having four points on your license with six points possibly costing you a suspended license, you tend to calm down a bit behind the wheel...
Also, funny thing about down here, about people "catching up" to you from a light, it's because driving license=tard pass in San Antonio. People CRAWL off the line to get going, then go like 10mph over the posted speed limit once they finally get up to speed. I can't stand driving during the day time any more, simply because everyone does every possible thing wrong behind the wheel while they drive. Hell, the DRUNKS are better drivers at night than the people that get out mid-day to drive, at least they pay better attention to what they are doing.

To answer the thread question--I'd say no --overall--but we all know things you do can make it appear it will--for example --putting tags on your car that says----uh---"DONTEVEN"--CAN CAUSE YOU SOME MORE ACTIVITY THAN YOU MAY HAVE WISHED FOR---FROM ONE WHO KNOWS--- Carry on--

I thought it was just me. When I moved to NJ in '02, I noticed it right away. I thought it was because the speed limit on the main roads is 55 or greater.
Try this: next time you're 1st at a light don't hit it too hard. I'll bet someone honks at you. People in NJ drive like maniacs...PA is worse.
Some of best drivers I've ever encountered were in Manhattan.....no joke.

I turn everything off so I can hear the back tires squeal on my Marauder as well as the tires on the mid to late 80's beautiful black fox body Mustang with the oversized back tires and loud exhaust when we leave the light 3 times in a row, and so I can hear Amy say "He should make his car faster instead of louder. Oh look, the passenger is shaking his head, he can't believe it!" That's why I turn everything off Bob. I hope this helped. :)

Just tonight a GTO rolled up on me... I lost serious traction at 50 when I nailed it(trying to avoid an obstacle, certainately not drag racing)<disclaimer. He must have a MUCH better car because a 1/2 mile later he ran across an obstacle too(not racing ofcourse) and he didn't skip one tire? Not. even. a. scratch. Some say slow, I say it's just a safe car. Yup, I always was the nice guy. :)

Hey.. watch that Jersey bashing. We 'aint all Jersey Shore. Some of us graduated Pre-K and moved on to the big time...1st grade.
Seriously, I get challneged all the time because in Bergen County, there are so few of us. The Rice Rockets think they are racing Grand-Pa. My '04 Silver Birch with after market exhaust, cold air package, and reflashed chips soon prove then wrong. I also added the BAER slotted & Crossdrilled brakes to stop this thing.
While I am a grand-father (63), I still drive my Marauder like I drive my six Mustangs. I always do the speed likmit: 80 on Rt 80, 95 on Rt 95, and I try my best on Rt 287!

I've had a WRX rev up at me last time I had the mustang out. You can tell the mustang is modified at idle, but revving up it's insanely loud. One rev up and he didn't even want to launch against me. With the Marauder, the only "races" so to speak are when people get next to me at a light where their lane ends, and think I'm some easy pickins grandpa.
