My MM is a whistling fool--when the engine is cold---in the 50s--if you rev up to 2500 +/- 50 rpm, it has a clear whistle for a split second--as the car warms up ???????? It's been doing it for about a month---sprayed starter fluid around all joints in the intake system with no change in rpm--installed new fan and motor--still there. acceleration is smooth--no hesitation at any rpm---pulls hard with no ping. :help:, Maury

I have had that same whistle in the winter months for the last two years. I just replaced all the bearings in the idlers and the tensioner at a cost of $9 each last week and all is whisper quiet now.

Bearing #6203 for all.

I'll put this on my priority to-do list --good to know it's not in the vacuum system--have appointment for some free dyno runs and I didn't want to have a lean engine show up, Maury

Sounds like the beginnings of the idler pulley problem. Suggest that you get it looked at/taken care of before it causes you problems out on the highway. Mine did "faux supercharger whistle" for couple of months and finally "let go" on the way home from work. Fortunately, I was able to get into a pull-off and call a tow company. I procrastinated just a bit too long. :o

How many miles does the idler and tensioner last? What was your mileage when you replaced either one.

My idler pulley went out at about 70,000 miles.

I kept the idlers and tensioner and replaced the bearings at 77,000. But it has made cold weather noise since about 50,000.
