Suddenly I have this problem where the air wants to come out the defroster vents most of the time. If I hit Auto, it goes directly to defrost, maybe a little on the floor. If I then hit floor from auto, it stays on defrost, but if I hit vents, it will go to vents. Then from vents I hit floor, it goes to floor, but it won't go from defrost to floor directly.

O rings or blend door? Temp sensor? Something else?

Sounds like o-rings.

O-rings.

The blend door does exactly that...blends the hot and cold air to regulate the temp. It has nothing to do with where the air blows out.

also if it ws your blend door you would beble to get a code out of the eatc

I'm taking it apart tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Well, I performed the O-ring replacement procedure today and it was an oustanding success! The system works better than it ever has since I bought the car. No waiting for the air to come out where you want it! I followed the instructions by JACook from 7-14-2007, and it was fairly easy. Thanks JaCook for the detailed instructions!

One of the O-rings was definitely worn out, with no sealing properties at all. Another one was marginal, so I went ahead and replaced all 4, just to be sure. The one that was bad seemed to be made out of plastic, not rubber like the other 3, which makes me wonder if this is an example of "planned obsolescence" by Ford. Probably is.

So for 4 O-rings and a small tube of di-electric grease, a total investment of $7.60 and about 2 hours time, I have a like new heating/cooling system.

Awesome!

I replaced my O-rings a while back ago, only thing it did was give me back full Vents, air still comes out floor and defrost on Floor or auto. I probably just need a new EATC.

Seriously, it was coming out the defrosters so much that it was burning out my eyes. And the temp was hard to modulate. So, yeah.......

So, what if it is the blend door?

So, what if it is the blend door?

Then you need to repair it.

Not an easy repair, as the dash has to come apart.

Piece of **** car. I'm pretty sure that's the deal with mine. Only the heat works (by only the heat, I mean every setting is hot air) and the EATC tosses out that funky code.

And the heat comes out the defroster vents?

Not anymore. I replaced the EATC O-rings.

The air will come out of the right vent, it's just hot, regardless of temperature setting.

Might be the blend door.
