Took the MM in for correction of a loud screaming sound at 2,500 +-200 rpm on starting cold--below 60 degrees---they want the car overnite--so I'm taking it back in at 3 PM---the advisor said it could be a belt idler or ????? the timing chain position sensor--I would really appreciate any advice before going back in tonite . It's under warranty, so cost is not the object---just would feel more comfortable with a little knowledge. Thanks in advance, Maury:help:

If you can take the serpentine belt off - engine cold, start the car briefly. If the noise is gone, it is likely a belt tensioner/idler pulley bearing. If the noise is still there, noise is likelt inside the engine. Good luck with analysis and repair.

There IS no "timing chain position sensor"...if he meant cam position sensor or crank position sensor, those are Hall-effect (magnetic) devices with no moving parts, so they can't make noise like that.

I concur with what thathotrodlincn said ^^^

Exactly, there is a cam position sensor that works similar to a ABS sensor. Impossible for it to make a noise.
Its most likely either a idler or the tensioner pulley. Pop the belt off and see if the noise goes away.
