Hey all, anyone given any thought to swapping in a new 5.0l (coyote) engine? The newer mustangs have the air box & inlet on the same side as the MM, My beast hs 130k on it, so I'm thinking its time to pull it, I ws going to start ordering parts, but then this idea struck me. 412hp is a nice platform to start with, just wondering if anyone else was considering it, or has done it?

For the price of even trying, you could get a nice, forged longblock w/sc cheaper...

Might want to wait until they start showing up at the wreckers, at lower prices...

You will need certain things:
Engine (https://ssl111.webhosting.optonline.ne t/spartaperformance.com/merchantmanager/product_info.php?products_id=2 88)
Wiring harness (https://ssl111.webhosting.optonline.ne t/spartaperformance.com/merchantmanager/product_info.php?cPath=53&products_id=293)
Alternator (https://ssl111.webhosting.optonline.ne t/spartaperformance.com/merchantmanager/product_info.php?cPath=49_54&products_id=291)
You will also need a custom driver if you plan on using your 4R70W along with other minor parts and mods.

Plus DBW & find a way to ditch the electric PS unit.

Okay, heres my line of thinkin (always gets me in trouble), the price of a supercharger system from reinhart is around $4500 (just wouldn't have had the patience to piece together an Eaton Swap!), price of a crate 5.0l is about $6k. instead of a s/c I was thinkin juice, problems I figured on were headers, a/c, alt, pulleys etc... the fact that the firing order is different, so ign mod. Didn't consider the DBW, or any problems with the trans! I wonder if I could just use a good old fashioned throttle cable? As for the trans, whats with the driver? I'm not sure I want to have my car tied up that long, so If I consider this,I'd like to be prepared for whatever I may run into ahead of time!
Thanx for the feedback! I'm not scrappin this idea yet!!!

Driver is part of the tune to tell the pcm how to work with that trans. Would have to be custom if no one has ever done it before. If you have $$$, nothing is impossible...

The largest flaw I see here is that the electronics are what make the 5.0 what it is. without the ECU running the vvt etc. (which likely requires working DBW etc. or it is going to throw a fit) the thing just isn't going to make power. So 6K for a crate motor, 1500 or whatever for the harness/ECU, figuring out all the rest, and you still are only making 370 or something at the wheel. . . and that's the manual cars, so with our auto trans something less than that. OR spend less on a blower and make 440-450. That's assuming your intentions are price per hp.
If you are just looking to do something different, then by all means have at it, and post pics, I'd be interested in seeing how it goes.

^Yup! Only with a good crate motor, you can make a hell of a lot more than 440-450! :burnout:

There is a new throttle body available for converting DBW to regular throttle cable. There is also a new standalone controller for the engine. The MM PCM controls a lot more than just the engine, so I suspect a standalone aftermarket engine controller would be the way to go. Then splice enough signals between the two (stock PCM and standalone engine controller) so the MM PCM will control the transmission.

Did anyone check out my post??? The wiring kit to swap the 5.0L is one of those links, it will supply you with an ECU and a DBW accelerator pedal.

Personally I despise DBW. But I guess if somebody wanted to take out their pedal and cable instead of changing the throttle body, that's an option too.

You could ditch the MM PCM use the Ford Racing Control kit which includes the DBW and acc. pedal, then use a standalone TCM for the trans, source the works from a wrecked Mustang and have the 6 speed auto with it, or go with TCI's new aftermarket 6 speed auto and their TCU.

Thanx for all the info guys, I found myself starting to consider an old AOD out of the fox years, then just get a new driveshaft. Not sure how I will proceed, I am leaning toward trying this on a retired police car, or Grand Marq now, before I ruin my car...lol

Doesn't the fox body's AOD had a different bolt pattern than a modular motor?

Yes Windsor engine family has different bell housing bolt pattern then the Modular engine family.
