I have a problem I hope someone here has the fix. When I turn the key to the run position the starter continues to crank. I do not even have to go to the start position with the key and the starter continues to crank after the car is running I then have to pull the relay from the junction box under the hood. Has anyone here had this issue or know what might be causing the problem. could it be the TR sensor on the transmission.

Sounds like a problem with a connection in the ignition cylinder in the steering column. May need to get in there and see if it's worn, broken, loose, etc. Someone else will chime in I'm sure! :)

Thanks I will check the ignition cylinder I had it out the other day and that is when my issue began

I pulled the cylinder and cleaned the contacts I think it might be the TR sensor on the tranny because if I move the shifter lever to and potision like D,R,P,N,1,2 the car will attemped to start when the key hits run.

Sounds symptomatic of a screw loose behind the wheel to me . . .

Dave, if your shifter goes D, R, P, N, 1, 2...then you have bigger problems. :P

Starter silinoid first then switch. I don't know how hard it is to pull the starter but I'ld do that first. I've had that problem on an old ford before and it was the silinoid. Good luck!

See if you can tap the solenoid (on the starter) lightly with a hammer. If that is the case, you'll need a new starter.
BTW, PM me your new phone number when you get a chance or call me. Thanx.

+1
This happens to our truck starters sometimes, they will stick and continue to spin. A few whacks with a mallet on the starter usually frees it up. This will mean its time for a new starter in the near future.

I replaced the starter and selinoid, Ignition switch and DTR sensor on tranny I also removed my alarm system and remote start and still had the issue, I now have a started button mounted on the center console wired directly to the starter circuit at the power distrobution box under the hood

Sooooo... If someone breaks a window, popps the hood, cuts the alarm cable with bolt cutters, cranks the steering lock to break the pin... Can they then just push that button to start it??? If no, then that's a pretty cool workaround!

The car will crank but the PATS system is still active and the car will not start without the key being in the ignition.

i wish i couldve seen this earlier, its definately not Trans range sensor. it only serves to make sure the car starts only in the drive and neutral positions.
