well got to the track this morning - got the car ready to go - took an easy run down the track - 12.5@109 - the car felt great - so went again - gave the car everthing she had and bang - broke on the launch - snapped the driver side axle and shattered the gears - thats racing - used a brand new set of mickey drag radials and i never felt the track so prep as it was - it was like walking on duck tape - had the track prep very well because of the nasty cars running today - need stronger axels and time delay on the Nos

:( That sucks. Good luck with the rebuild. Were they the stock axles and carrier?

Taking it easy at 12.5? I can only dream of doing 12's. Hope you have better luck next time sir.

When you run 11's like John does, 12's are just warm ups. ;)

Better to break an axle than the engine! At least this way you get talk about making so much power................The axle didn't stand a chance!

That sux John, I'm sure it will be better next time. I agree with the axels if I were you I would try th 31spline oem next time. But please no time delay, just let it rip I want to see 1.4 60' on that timeslip.

what i have is 31 spline Moser axles and ford racing gears and detroit true trac
Sorry to hear this John!
I'm about to start my rear rebuild now.
This is the reason I haven't been back to the track yet! Because im pretty sure I'll snap one of these 28splines.
So you broke a 31 spline Moser? Where did it break and why did the gears get crunched.

i will know when we open the rear most likely tomorrow - i am pushing 736 lbs of torque - 4500 lb car - something will break

Bro quite a few people around here have broken moser 31 splines (including Zack)
I'm going with the ford 31's and see how they hold up!
And also I'm not laying down as much torque as John! I'm only at 500RWTQ! :P

i will know when we open the rear most likely tomorrow - i am pushing 736 lbs of torque - 4500 lb car - something will breakThat was my next question. LOL. I got scared that I was on the limit of my stock 28 spliners with 3.55s and a 255/50-16 ET Street Radial. You literally have just under twice the TQ I have. Now I feel much safer spraying when I do.
Lmao, "taking it easy". My fastest ET is 12.456.
You think I'm safe spraying out of the hole with 380ish RWTQ? I haven't yet, that 12.45 was spraying right at or a little before the 60'

A few of us was their, MillsMarauder,Greggash , Blackmobile & my self with John's son. The first run he drove it easy. We were all surprized to see what happened on the second run. It took us a little while with a floor jack to get it off the track & the Officials were very nice & helpful. John's remark about walking on Duck tape as we pushed it off the track is a under statement.

Sorry to see this, but glad to see it was not at the top end like another member who totalled his Marauder and injured himself.
Good luck with getting it back together.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. :( Sounds like a good time to upgrade if possible and get back out there soon and kick some butt!
Sorry to hear about your bad news. Time to think about a C-Clip eliminator and Detroit Truetrac 35 Spline rear end.

Since our cars have disc brakes in the rear don't they some what act like c-clip eliminators?

I thought the axle broke at the splines! It didn't hurt the quarter panel, did it?:(

we took the rear apart - did not look like any damage - when the axel sheered off it the wheel tore up the brake caliper bracket and emergency barke - had it all replaced - still have to test drive the car to make shure everything else is ok

John, is that the factory rearend? if so you could install ford 9" ends and have a thicker axle built if i am not mistaken??
Glad you got it back up and running!

John, good to hear the Moser is replacing the axle for you. Shows their reputation is solid. Been lucky with mine so far. Track prep sounded incredible. Probably a contributng factor. You will be back and hit the 10's. I am confident in that.

Sad to see that Moser break in the same place as a few others have. Do we have any confirmation Moser has solved that problem?
I am upgrading to the Tru Trac and 31 spline this spring and was thinking of going the Ford axle route. Your findings will be important to me and my project...
