An Evenflow cooling mod for $150.00 would have prevented the engine failure.
As cheap as this mod is there is no reason for not doing it.

Sorry about the engine maybe we should start a list

MuscleMerc,
What and how does this cooling Mod work, any photos,
A buck and 1/2 is chump change. To prevent engine damage......
This is the first I am hearing about it.
If you don't mind please

Good Morning CBT,
To answer your question we were in the mid south from Virigina to Georgia and as far west as the great Smokey Mtns. That was until the Trail of Tears and than Oklahoma.
As of late we are everywhere now. My parents moved to Oregon during WW II to work
in a defence plaint on the Columbia River. That small town now is part of the Pacific
Ocean. We moved to Portland. When I got of age I moved to New York and after a
stunt in the Military, Marines, I went to work for the US Marshall Service and the rest is history. I still am part of a Cherokee community. Thanks for asking

That is debatable......cooling mods won't hurt anything if done right but I have 223K miles on my original engine with the last 139K miles supercharged and I have no cooling mod!!

Maybe I'm just lucky but never have I been very lucky so I believe most heat problems with #7 & #8 cylinders have to do with lean conditions and detonation??

BTW, if and when I have the engine out of my car I will probably do a cooling mod but it ain't worth the hassle with the engine in place!!:shake:

Thank you, the photos make it real clear what needs to be done.
I like your input on it being 5/8" instead of 1/2" nice call.

I believe so. I don't have a cooling mod and my valves looked great when we had the heads off at 65K.

So is #7 & #8 cylinder where the knock usually comes from and this mod should help prevent this problem? Sorry just trying to see the real picture here

151k hard miles on mine and no cooling mod. My same thinking, it's been fine without it, now if it replaced then I'll go ahead and do it from the start with the new/fresh motor.

Well I'm thinking sign me up. My car has the tick at times and has had it since day one according to vegasmarauder the original owner Not trying to hijack this thread either. How hard is the mod to install and how hard is it to flush and bleed the coolant system of the MM?

Cut and dry. Which kit is the best to go with? I want the most recommended.

Hmmm.. Sounds like now is the right time to sell my lower intake that has been modified to clear the Evenflow kit on the passenger side.........

There is an engine tick and there is also the tick from the fuel injectors.

I'll be doing a compression and leak down test before the track opens back up.

Just make sure you get a kit made for a MM, it will come with 2 connectors for the freeze plugs. Others will not work they are specific for a Cobra which has a totaly diffrent coolant routing.

After looking at what needs to b done, anybody near North Alabama want to install this mod for me? I have the shop and the tools, access to food and beverages as well.

Scared!!!

I'll tear the ol 5.0 down to the shortblock in a heartbeat. Put heads cam intake in it with no problem. This engine here is a different animal.

Ha! If you can work on a 302 you can do a simple cooling mod.

How much you paying? I'll do it.

Dragcity
02-14-2011, 07:32 PM
Its really pretty easy. Even I could do it.

What's it worth? I'll pay. If I had a DIY I'd probably try it. But removing plugs from the heads and etc.... Just sounds a bit much. A write up would help my confidence

Interesting, I don't want to start a big discussion on this Mod but two "Major" Motor builders said this Mod is not really needed, just another item someone is looking for to do to the cars. In fact my son Had a engine built and the builder advised not to use it as it was a waste of money and left it off his motor. So I guess if ya have nothing else to do and think it might help knock yourself out!

JBeezy
03-01-2011, 09:15 PM
Well it may not be needed just trying to do any preventive maintenance to prolong the life of my engine. It may not help but I'm guessing it sure can't hurt
