Good folks I need to change out my fuel filter to get to the root of the rough running problem. How do you relieve the pressure in the line before removing the filter. Thanks.

I pull the fp fuse (fuse #5 in the box near the battery) and crank it over for a few secs. Make sure the hose is away from you. Gravity will still have some gas chasing you. Wear eye protection too.

is there a pressure release valve on the the fuel rail?

If you let the car sit for a while, .5 to 1 hr the pressure will go down by itself or a least be very little.

This is what I did. Wasn't bad at all to do. I think it took me 10 minutes including jacking the car up

Yes, Schrader valve like on your tires. Push that in without knowing what you're doing... May wanna have a smoke... :D

Yes there is. Look at the fuel rails on the top of the motor. You should see a schraeder valve (looks like a tire valve). Wrap a paper towel around and over it. Depress the valve to release the pressure. Make sure you don't get it in your eyes. You will get some out of the lines and the filter so have a catch pan ready.

That's what I always do.

I just let the car sit for a couple hours and had a towel handy when I undid the clip. As others have said, not much gas comes out. Just make sure the exhaust isn't hot when you do it.

does removing or opening up the gas cap relieve the pressure? should you open gas cap when changing fuel filter???

No it wont relieve the pressure because the fuel system is only pressurized after the fuel pump.

No need to open the cap when changing the fuel filter.

No. The fuel in the line is on the opposite side of the pump as the fuel in the tank, as in it is already pressurized and ready to blast thru the injectors when you hit the key.

It's easy money. I got the filter, jacked up the car, called justbob from under my car, and he told me what to do. It takes 3 times as long to jack up the car than it does to change the filter.
