Barry Grant just filed for chapter 7. Been around for a long time.

As of today, February 18, 2011 we are ceasing operations at our Dahlonega location and all subsidiary locations. Working with all of you has been the experience of a lifetime. I will value your support as friends, customers, vendors, and media contacts forever. The economic situation has put the company in the position of not being able to find working capital needed to continue operations and get a Chapter 11 reorganization plan through the court. In addition to this, is that all of our equipment has been breaking down causing production delays and further hurting cash flow. Reluctantly now we must convert to Chapter 7 liquidation after 26 years of business. The financial collapse has closed, or has caused severe restructuring of many companies in our industry. Many individuals have lost everything. We have even lost our home. This is the most humbling experience of my life, and I have no future plans at this point. Thank you for your many years of support.

It sucks to hear this long time business associated with hot rods is closing up but the writing was on the wall. Few old hot rods are still carbd. Everyone is going to EFI nowadays. May the Demon RIP

Where did you hear this? When I was at the hall of fame I asked why they don't have fuel injection. They told me there were too many tricks. So why would they convert over? Even then if the company wanted to stay around they should have made a fuel injection kit like Holley. Love it or hate it, they would have had the product if that's the way things were going.

Here's the other side of the story....

I ordered the Barry Grant Nitrous kit for my 6-71 blower on September 16 2010 so that the new setup would be ready for SSHS10. I had the new BDS bugcatcher and EFI system to go on top of the blower but that meant the ZEX perimeter plates would no longer fit. I didn't like the NOS blower kit so I opted for the Barry Grant version. The Jegs site said it would be 6 days to ship and I was OK with that. 2 weeks later, I call Barry Grant and ask where the kit is. The guy on the phone was rude and laughed at me when I said that Jegs said 6 days. He says, "6 days? They should have said 60!" I was a bit taken back and asked why. "We've been having problems getting our mill fixed and are waiting for some parts." He says I will have it by December 24th. Great, a new christmas present to myself. I'll miss SSHS10 but that's ok as there will always be more races. Mid January I still don't have it and I tried 3 days straight and kept leaving messages with Barry Grant to find out the status of the order. No returned calls, rude people on the phone, seems like a recurring pattern. I call Jegs and cancelled the order and they promptly refund my money.

I will say this, after explaining the first delay to Jegs, they gave me a $65 gift certificate to make up for the missed SSHS10 entry fee because of the delay from Barry Grant. They didn't have to do that but they did.

I just spent another $1700 with Jegs and they have earned my business.

Barry Grant was on a spiral to closure long before the announcement.

From the description of the BG employees and their attitude, it sounds like they were well aware of the impending close.

Sorry to see the loss of another performance industry company.

A spiral is correct. Businesses rarely are up and running as usual one moment and then completely shut down the next.
Usually there are problems they are unable to completely solve. They take the steps that they can. At some point those steps don't work and they are also unable to address new problems.

Usually the owner only gives up after he has tried everything and all is lost.

Jeeezzz, I couldn't even imagine what he's going through and the thought of losing everything scares the Hell outta me! May he find the strength to carry on and make it through.
