So after about two months of ownership, my MM is done for.
And I just installed the front and rear SB along with the first oil change.

The story: Going home from work. Saw a shiny object in my lane (3). Was going around a curve when this happened. Couldn't go into the center lane due to another vehicle. Went partially onto the shoulder and back out. Vehicle loss traction and I spun tail first into the wall. Spun around again and struck the opposite cement barrier. No airbags deployment. Found out later that the object was an aluminum ladder.

Good: No scratches or abrasion. Large contusion on my knee and soreness from my neck down to lower back. EMS/police/fire were all on scene. Single vehicle involvement.

Bad: see pictures :bigcry:

I think I can save the cargo tray if anyone is interested. SCT also available.

Sorry to see this and read this. Most importantly, you are okay and that is what matters. If this were me, I would probably go to the ER for a thorough exam, paramedics can only so much in the field.

I would also go and get checked out. If you are feeling the pain in your neck and back already, you are really going to be hurting tomorrow.

Any company/owner name on the ladder, maybe be able to track down who dropped it ?

So sorry to hear of this accident and see the pics. But really important thing is that you're okay. But do get checked out by your doc.

Thanks for all the comments.

I plan to get a couple of x-rays tomorrow. I'm pretty sore all over.

I've contemplated getting another one. But finding one that is clean and low mileage is pretty rare. Gonna let the insurance co. sort it out first.

Nope. Just your regular ole ladder from Lowes/Home Depot.

I didn't realized it was a ladder at first but know that it wa too big to stradle or run over hence the shoulder route.

Sorry to hear about that. Like other posts say good thing you're ok. Hopefully all works out for you buddy. Go get checked too like Anthony said there's only so much Paramedics can check on the field.

Sucks! Big time!! Hope you will be OK? That's the main thing.

After the insurance company talks to you then move forward.

Best of luck!

One question, why didn't the airbag deploy? Stand on Mr. Ford's desk until you get an answer. Maybe query the National Transportation Safety Board or some organization that investigates vehicle safety, (ask Toyota).

Sadly, another case of MM's swapping ends when traction is lost. Our suspension set up is straight forward, your tire tread look good. Wonder if the limited slip differential feature was working?

Good to read you survived this crash with what I hope is only whip lash.

First, glad you're OK, get checked out. As my wife says, "it's only a car", yeah right. You can find another, it might just take some time. About two years ago in a snow storm, I ran over an aluminum light pole blown down in the freeway, no damage at all, maybe it would have been better to have hit the ladder. I'm not trying to be harsh, but I think I would have hit it.

That really sucks bro. Sorry to hear/see that. Glad you're OK. No airbags??

I'll join others in suggesting a full doctor exam. I got clipped by a drunk driver in the early 90's and spun a few times. Onsite exam was fine. Many suggested I go get checked-out but I was young and invincible. A few years later the back spasms, neck cramps and hip pains came on. Related?...I'll never know.

Good luck! You sure that thing isn't fixable? :dunno:

Really sorry about the car, very glad you are ok (subject to doctor/hospital checkout). Hope the insurance company does not try to screw you too bad. Stay strong. To quote the normal funny line in these circumstances - dibs on the floor mats.

jmho Pat but I think the Addco's don't help in situations like these...... (Cold temps, curves, summer tires, non compliant suspension) They take the suspension out of the picture and overload the tires in situations like this. Sure there would be more body roll in the vehicle, but the whole suspension would have been more involved in any evasive manuevers taken.

I say this because I had some near misses in my 1st Marauder equipped like Black Sheep's, and the present car (before the Metco CA's). My present car bobbed and weaved alot but stuck..... The Addco equipped car felt like you were going from pavement to ice when the car broke away.... Its an unsettling feeling, and something folks need to know if they are looking at Addco's for their Marauder. Not saying anything would be different in Black Sheep's situation. I'm sure he is a capable guy and i'm glad he made it through this relatively intact. Just food for thought about the Addco sway bars.

[QUOTE=Pat;1013423]One question, why didn't the airbag deploy? Stand on Mr. Ford's desk until you get an answer. Maybe query the National Transportation Safety Board or some organization that investigates vehicle safety, (ask Toyota).

These vehicles have deceleration rate sensors that determine whether or not the occupant needs the airbag for protection during a crash...Obviously he didn't need them or they would have deployed. Although it looks like he hit pretty hard..

So after about two months of ownership, my MM is done for.

Sorry to hear about the accident; but am glad that you are OK. As others have mentioned, it is a really good idea to get fully checked out by the doc.

Bet I know what kinda vehicle that ladder fell off. Happens frequently around here too.

Sure looks like he hit hard enough for the airbags to go. Regardless, you can always buy another car. You walked away from a bad wreck. You are ahead in the game.

Sorry to hear about the wreck, but glad you are ok. Get checked out by a doctor, thats what you pay insurance for. Out of curiosity did your car have traction control? What GAMike said is very true about summer tires in cold temps, they do not mix well.

jstevens
02-22-2011, 10:12 AM
True, true. I've lost traction 2 times this year at around 30-40mph. not a good feeling it all. The only thing saving me from wrecking was someone watching over me.

Thank you all again for all the kind and well wishes comments.

Going to the doctor later today. Mostly upper back/neck soreness and left leg bruising.

Thinking back, I believe the surface differences (road-shoulder), graded (going slightly down off a ramp), around a slight curve, freeway speed were all contributing factor. The temperature was around mid 60s (air...don't know about road surface temp) when this went down. Of course my driving skills or lack there of I suppose. But I drive a crown vic for a living and have been to numerous EVOC classes so I am very familiar with the panther platform. No, I'm not a taxi driver. LOL

In any case, I got all the PMs and will be getting back with those that sent them soon.

Black Sheep,
Thank God you are Okey. Even with the tactical training you received at the academy,
things happen so fast, and come as a surprise, it's hard to avoid some situations.
During training you are prepared for difficult scenarios, these you are not. You walked
away and that is what counts. Stay safe.

Ah, didn't know you were on the job. The temp had nothing to do with it, I was thinking cold as in 32* area. Sometimes once it starts going around you are just there for the ride and do what you can. Been there, done that... :( The last time, I have no idea how, other than the good Lord saved us. Three-four 360s on black ice with woods less than 10' from either side of the pavement. Took a while to swallow my heart.

No doctor appt today. Earliest I can get in is tomorrow.

Neck feels like you woke up with a "crook" where you are unable to turn....but in both direction and down into between the shoulder blades. The area below the knees are getting a bit purple.

Again, thanks for all the encouragement. Big man upstairs is definitely watching over me.

This is the "End" result of a Marauder, being struck from behind while stopped, by an 18 wheel International tractor trailer going 55 MPH. 6 weeks in the shop, the only steel it needed was a trunk lid and trunk pan. Oh, and a new seat back frame. (That kinda broke and laid me right down like it is supposed to.) Rear quarters pulled out door frames went back where they were supposed to be and that's that. She got a fresh coat of paint all over, except the roof.

Yes, they wanted to total it, never even finished the assessment. I insisted it get fixed. That was a pretty bad time.

Yes, and no. I'll never be quite right..... in the head. But that's not from the collision.

Yes. The little problems I have are due to the abuse I put myself through. I had a headache for a few weeks, sore all over for about two weeks. I was scheduled for a family vacation to Hawaii for three weeks not but a week before this happened. Warm sand does wonders for such a wreck.

The shop I took it to kept sending pictures of the process while I was in Hawaii. Pal of mine from high school did the repairs. His goup did a great job.

Went to the doctor and all checked out A-OK. Mostly musculoskeletal type pain. Gonna get some x-rays to see what the old bones look like.

The vehicle is totalled per adjustor. Everyone that saw the pictures said that I was very lucky to walk away with the minimal injuries sustained. Again, thank you for all the well wished here.
