As of about 5 pm yesterday afternoon/evening, I am no longer a Marauder owner.

I got a fantastic deal on a trade for an immaculate '02 Camaro SS so I pulled the trigger on it.

I have spare parts that I will be inventorying and listing up for sale if they can be shipped, mostly pull-offs and spares.

Getting to sleep last night was hard, no matter how great a deal I got it was still crushing to have to let the MM go to get it. :(

Actually he was only addressing the "gentlemen" of this site, Bunny. So Mr. BG, not that you care what I may think, but I do wish you good luck. I doubt you'll find as active, interesting and passionate a car club as you are leaving behind. (along with your Marauder) Hopefully your rejected car will find an appreciative new owner. ;)

Geez, I expected some razzing, but this is kinda crazy.

I was offered 6,500 for a 114K mile Marauder with the regular paint hazing problems and an A/C blend door that apparently stopped functioning properly. I left the dealership with an '02 Camaro SS 35th anniversary edition with T-Tops and every SLP option and only 38,655 miles on the clock. It was garage-kept and covered its entire life apparently, all the weather stripping has life in it, nothing is missing, no discoloration on the black plastics and the leather looks and feels as though it wasn't even sat in. The only modifications to the car are electronic cutouts and apparently a skip-shift eliminator. With all this, after trade-in was factored, I payed 10,400 plus TTL. I feel great about the deal I made.

The funny thing is, I prided myself on being a Ford guy that didn't play this divided camps game when it came to cars. I promised myself when I got this car that I wouldn't be one of THOSE Camaro guys that thinks his car is the fastest on the road and could stomp every Mustang he sees. After this kind of response, man no wonder so many of those guys hate Ford so much...

BTW, it's a ~340HP LS1 with the options listed above.

Why would you want a Camaro??? Those are everywhere and are total Frat Cars. As bang for the buck they are (the LS1) they are common! Nothing cool about them in my book and the drivers are just as bad as BMW drivers. They don't wanna talk to you unless you have one and when you kill on the street they don't even look at you to wave or anything... horrible. You are entering a scene that is a total mile high ego disaster.

On top of that you got an older car as a replacement. Ultra fail.

Enjoy.

oh psh, dont take everything to heart.

Did you spend $10k on the car with 6500 for the trade in (3500 in total) or did you spend 16500 in total?

It should have been closer to a straight trade either way, but 30k is low miles. Should be able to drive that well into next decade.

You guys talking about bang for the buck forget that its almost obligatory that you spend $2000+ on a new rear on them if you want any chance of hooking up at the track.:burnout:

Any ls/lt f-body is certainly not my cup of tea, but a lot of people like them. I do think you shot yourself in the foot paying so much for the thing. Their value is going to plummet in the next few years once newer Camaros start showing up with a few miles on them.

Just dont listen to 99% of what is said on LS1tech :)

I leave this thread for a few hours and it gets even worse.

Like I said before, I'm beginning to feel that maybe the reason so many chevy and camaro owners want nothing to do with Ford folks is that Ford folks are just as bad as Chevy folks are about playing the rival factions game. I don't even want to say some of the things I could say about my experiences with the Marauder up until recently when I got everything straightened out with it.

If you want me to be one of those Camaro douches, I can spend all day talking about how stock for stock AND modded for modded there is more potential in this Camaro than the Marauder, but I don't care about that, as well as some of the "benefits" of owning a four-door sedan that mean nothing to me. I don't have a family to haul around, I don't have to buy tons of groceries that have to be hauled all the time, so space and seating matters little to me. It matters even less since now I'm not gonna be bugged by my friends to be their ****ing taxi. The options on my car make it rare, the TAAAAALLLLL 6th gear second-overdrive means I can obliterate the MM fuel economy on the highway, plus I'm pretty sure I have a much smaller gas tank, so even though I don't wait until empty to fill, I will still pay less by a decent margin in more sparse increments.

Being given 6500 for a 114K Marauder with the issues I already listed and being able to drive off the lot with a barely-used fully-optioned Camaro SS for 11200 was more than a good deal, it was a ****ing great deal. I got a car that I can maintain and be perfectly happy with for reasons that MM could never give me, I don't have to mod a thing.

And you guys act like I was happy to get rid of it, when it was just a smart financial move that allowed me to get a car that I could still enjoy (instead of an econo-box.) BTW, where was that rare collectability when I traded it in? Will it have become more valuable in a few years when I had to decide if I wanted to repaint the entire body and possibly rebuild the engine? I'll still be waiting to see when MMs of any condition become investment-grade, and at that point I'll admit my wrong. Until then, I think I'll just enjoy my current decision.

As for the guys that have questioned about parts I have for sale via PM, I'm sorry but these parts aren't performance upgrades, I didn't have time to yank them off before the trade.

Basically, I have a damaged rim, a stock intake arm and filter box, a pair of OEM headlights that are fogged over, the original parts from the rear-end rebuild and gear swap, a stock MM driveshaft, the original pulleys that I swapped for the U/D pulleys, and a factory MM radio with a cassette jammed in it and the FM tuner out of whack. I think that's all. Some of that stuff can't easily be shipped (the driveshaft), so I'm not particularly interested in shipping it. Any local guys (however few we have) are welcome to talk to me about pricing, I'm more interested in clearing it out thank making a big profit off of it. (like seriously, make me an offer for picking it up, and you can probably have it.)

Anyways, I'm feeling that, especially having had the guy that everyone makes fun of on here make fun of me for this move, I'm not particularly welcome any more. To paraphrase this particular gentleman, I know the few people that I will keep in touch with, but other than that I guess I'm pretty much done on here.

It's been a nice ride, definitely not a nice ending.

Forget I ever brought it up, I'm done.

TL;DR on this thread, for those that don't want to bother reading all the bickering:

I sold my Marauder.

I have some used OEM parts I need out of my garage, will make some stupid crazy deals on them, especially for local pick up.

I'm probably not coming around here any more, especially if/after the parts have sold.

It's been real guys.

I am pretty new to MMs and when I sold my 4runner the guys at t4r.org couldn't understand why "I would mercury's version of the crown vic instead of a 4runner". That's the way it is. They didn't understand that I was tired of having a lifted suv that was slow as hell and that I was tired of hitting my head on the low ass roof. The marauder suits me better at this time in my life, just as the Camaro better suits you.

Motorhead350

Let's get a few things straight here. Any friend that makes fun of your car or makes fun of you in general isn't a friend. At least in my life. Second this was your decision. Maybe some of us (myself included) take the Marauder to an extreme. It's a car that isn't common, isn't from modern technology (compared to what's 2012 and on) and is itself a statement. Anyone that has the money to choose what they want to drive and what they wanna do to it must feel the car represents themselves. To me a Marauder is my way of giving the big finger to everyone. The auto industry for driving a "dinosaur" my generation for not giving in to what is aimed at us as a target market and anyone else that thinks they have a car that's faster or cooler on the street. I have become very cocky with my car, but the reason is because I love. Doesn't matter if I am stuck in traffic or driving across the country, I love every minute of it... especially racing and especially off the track. A Camaro to a Marauder is a big difference. Chevy to Ford I can see, but I myself like anything from any year from anyplace in the world... as long as it's cool to me. Camaro is a totally different scene and it's just not for me.

If you are looking for a car based upon value I still say the trader (no pun intended) got the better deal. Even if your new car has less miles it is still older, you will still have problems. I have never had a problem fixing the Marauder for dirt cheap with junkyard or Pep Boys parts unless it was performance related and even then it's always been aftermarket parts that let me down, NOT FORD.

Enjoy your new car, but as the years have gone by on this site some come and some go. Some stay around for life. You came, you went it's that simple. I'll be around, even if it's not on-line.

Drive safe and look out for the other guy.

Sounds like the Marauder was a poor choice for you in the first place.

It's like because I now have a Camaro, nothing else registers when I say it.

So I'll say it again: I enjoyed the Marauder very much. I've never been in a vehicle that I can hang an arm out the window and cruise in like that. I know that I can't now cruise while blasting 50's tunes and it even be close to the same experience. It looked mean and sounded meaner with the exhaust work I did. It got me through a lot of tough times too, and I will miss it dearly.

But guess what? It's just a ****ing car. Just like my Camaro is just a ****ing car. I don't care about what "scene" comes with it, no one has slid a letter under my door telling me I'm going to be initiated into the Camaro owners club. This was just a practical decision, I weighed the options and decided this was a good choice, 'cause the Camaro still allows me to have an enjoyable driving experience while making a good financial move. I don't have the time or money to sit around and maintain the MM (which BTW, I don't source my repairs from junkyards, so it isn't cheap by any means, especially when I corrected more factory problems with that car than any other car I've owned or known) while I keep my fingers crossed and HOPE it gains value. The Impala SS from the 90's didn't have a value explosion yet, if that's any indicator of the general market's opinion on big body powerhouses, especially older-but-not-yet-classic ones, then I feel safe that this won't explode in value in a few years (which is probably all the time I'd have anyway before I'd have to drop MAJOR cash in anyways). In the end too, I didn't buy EITHER of these vehicles with the intent of selling them any time soon, so it doesn't even matter to me. By KBB standards, I got a good deal on the trade-in, that's my biggest concern as someone who has to keep a good eye on finances.

I don't even know what to say any more, I know this is gonna either get torn to pieces or ignored so the same nonsense can be said again and again. So let me tie my loose ends here:

Thank you to everyone that wished me good luck, I'm sorry to have seemed to lump you in with my rants. I'm sorry to the people that think I'm overreacting, but getting poked fun at from going from Ford to Chevy once is funny, and non-stop for days gets annoying, but it's really upsetting when EVERYONE you know talks about your car like it's not worth the sheet metal it's made of. I don't know what motivates you to do that, but I guess I'm sorry it bothers me? I'll always be more concerned about the car I drive than the brand that is badged on it. This forum has always been pretty good to me, at least until now in some respects, it's definitely been the most informed of all the car forums I have been on by a wide margin, both about the car it's a club for and cars in general.

I still own my DTR because I've been threatened with death if I sell my DTR and buy a Mustang that I've always wanted. People grow tired of cars, guns, houses. Then they kick themselves later. Its life. Thats why I don't go and test drive new cars, they tend to follow me home. Then I take a a$$ beating. The only one I didn't with was the Marauder. She had never heard of or seen one before we pulled into the dealer to pick it up. For that matter I had never seen a DTR before either, bought it sight unseen, brought in from 275 miles away. He wanted a Camaro, so what, enjoy it. Its life.

You helped me out when I and my family were in your city. Chris, you're a great guy in my book! If you ever need a helping hand or want to vent, let me know. As long as you're happy! I wonder if there are other forum posts out there like: You sold your Chris-Craft for a Princess??? You sold your JohnDeere for a Kuboto??? You sold your Element for a PlanB??? You sold your Dell for a Compaq???

Come on, guys! Show a little empathy!! Don't chime in if all you're going to do is give him grief!!!
^^^ I said it in post six, yet it continued. For many of us, this website is about the people and not solely the car. Chris didn't deserve some of the crap thrown his way because of his choices. This thread is now closed.
