View Full Version : Sea Foam Through Running Engine

Good evening to all. I am considering decarboning the inside of my intake, cylinder head intake runners and combustion chambers by spraying Sea Foam into my throttle body with the engine running. I have a couple questions: (1) Will it cause my car to throw a code if I run it with the Mass Air Meter disconnected while I perform this procedure? (2) Will Sea Foam damage my oxygen sensors? (3) Does this stuff actually work?

1) yes, but you can easily clear it.
2) They claim no, and from what I've seen, no damage.
3) I think so, but be ready to get real scared when you do it.

Seafoam works great.
I do the treatment before I change plugs (once a year).
I buy 2 cans, 1 I run through the power brake booster vacuum hose. I add 1/2 the other can to the gas tank the fill up before the tuneup and the fill up after the tune up.

Do you run it through the vacuum line at idle or a higher RPM?

You can do that or Seafoam has a new application system. Checkout their website:

(1) Can't answer that...never used SeaFoam in that way.
(2) No.
(3) Yes. It's one of the very few "miracle-in-a-can" products that actually works as claimed.

I'm planning to use the Seafoam spray this weekend through the throttle body. Their video says to increase rpms a bit for better atomization. 2 person job with the looks like since you have to push to spray, possible reach-around if you have long arms & legs.
I haven't used it yet besides adding a can to the tank once a year. Not really sure what improvements to expect. Wonder if it'll fix my flickering seat adjustment buttons. :D

I check reviews on almost everything I buy. Too many conflicting reports & reviews on this stuff. Even on this board. Figure I try it and see for myself.

It won't hurt the engine or fuel system.

seafoam does work, is safe as its a petro product, run it into the pcv at hot idle, youll have to rev it up to keep it running. near the end of the can let it suck a lot and stall, wait a bit and take it for a spirited run, you need lots of air at high rpm to suck it all in and burn it out - tons of smoke. No it won't totally decarbon everything but it will help it run better and help wash the oil out of the upper and lower etc. I seafamed my chainsaw and it now runs like butter! before it was tough to get to not stall at idle.
Dont listen to the nay sayers they are clueless.

I didn't get laughed at when I asked the guys at Mo's to use my can of seafoam...smoked up his shop pretty good. Definately take your car out for about 5-10 mins of high-spirited driving after the can is emptied to get all the smoke out.

With a bore scope I showed absolutely 0 results. You are much better off running water/meth injection. That cleaned the hell out of the pistons in my stang.

It is good for passing emissions! Done that more than once right after a fail.. (Older cars/sniffer test) even cheaper with the exact same results > rubbing alcohol.
