Well it all started on my way to school wednesday evening. The car had been sitting since saturday because it was dirty as hell and i didnt have time to wash it.I get in to crank her up and it sounds like it wants to crank but never does. I tried it a couple more times and nothing. So i come back thursday and try it again and still the exact same thing, sounds like it wants to crank but never does. I tested the battery its in great shape, its not making the noise you would typically hear with a bad starter. Then i get in and try it again today and she cranks after about 10seconds of holding the key in crank position. For the first minute it was running it sounded like it wanted to cut off and when i gave it a little bit of gas it did cut off. Cranked it back up again and it stayed running. I'm guessing maybe a problem with the fuel or ignition systems?? Any ideas??:mad2:

If the battery is good, I would disconnect the positive and negative cables, clean the cable ends real good with a wire brush, clean the terminal posts real good with a wire brush, put some electrical grease on the terminals and reconnect the cables, making sure they are very tight. Just a suggestion though. If any type of corrosion gets in there, you could have enough of a connection to power things in the car, but not enough of a connection to turn the motor. Like I said, just a suggestion, but you have to start trouble shooting somewhere. When you wire brush the parts, make sure bare metal is showing and you get all the debris off before reconnecting.

Plugged fuel filter for sure or baked fuel pump.

I agree, the fuel filter should be the first thing to check

It eventually starts and runs like crap after nothing happens when you turn the key for 10 seconds?:confused:
It sounds like it wants to crank but never does?:confused::confused: :confused:
Not a fuel problem.
Definitely electrical/mechanical.

Get yourself prepared to do a FP swap. A faulty fuel pump will do EXACTLY what you described
Don't go with the stocker if it is the pump, upgrade it.

it sounds like it wants to crank but never does. I tried it a couple more times and nothing. So i come back thursday and try it again and still the exact same thing, sounds like it wants to crank but never does.I'm confused. How does a car sound like it wants to crank but doesn't?
she cranks after about 10seconds of holding the key in crank position.Again confused...do you mean it does NOTHING for 10 seconds, then cranks? Or do you mean it CRANKS for 10 seconds, then starts?
For the first minute it was running it sounded like it wanted to cut off and when i gave it a little bit of gas it did cut off. Cranked it back up again and it stayed running.Sounds like the IAC.

Bob, I think he means he hears the fuel pump turn on. Sounds like your starter isn't getting power or it's a lose connection. If it was fuel related the car would still crank, but not fire up. From the posts it sounds like the car isn't cranking, but the fuel pump turns on. I would check the battery connection or connection to the starter.
Does anyone know if we can hit the starter while cranking it? Or is that an old school trick?
