Someone had posted about replacing the parking lights with LED bulbs. You will have to add a resistor to the power for the turn signal circuit.

Here is where I located my resistor.

Jim, that looks like God's Own Resistor... :D

I thought replacement LED bulbs that were plug-n-play had any necessary resistors built in?

The resistor that is built-in is to use the LED bulb in a 12v system.

The resistor in the picture is so the LCM thinks there is an incandescent bulb in there not an LED bulb.

If the resistor wasn't there the LCM would think that the bulb was burned out and would flash really fast since the LED bulbs have almost no resistance.

I put led switchbacks in my turn signals and because of the resistance difference I had to put in load resistors to stop hyper flash.

those switch backs are very nice!, one more thing to order:shake:

I tried to shoot you a pm but it says your box is full. I have a question on the LED resistors.

I bought these and I'm getting the fast blinker for low voltage. I saw the set up where you mounted your resistors. Did you have to do one for each light. I replaced the amber fronts (2 lights) and the rear had 2 in each light I replaced. Will I need 6 resistors? I found these on Putco's website or do you recommend something different?

http://www.putcosales.com/Putco-LED-Light-Bulb-Load-Resistor-Kit-PRD97.aspx

Lights I put in.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PUT-233157A-360/ 2 of these

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PUT-233157R-360/ 4 total of these.

Any help is appreciated.

Chris, Hope you didn't pay that much for the bulbs???????? And those resistors are way over priced also.

Go to www. superbriteleds.com. I get alot of my LEDs and related parts there.

The reason your getting a fast blinker is not low voltage its because of low resistance. The LCM looks for a certain resistance in each turn signal circuit and if it's below a certain threshold the LCM assumes that there is a burned out bulb and flashes rapidly to alert you. Since LEDs have almost no resistance the LCM thinks the bulb(s) are burned out.

You will need a resistor for each LED bulb that is used for a turn signal, front and/or rear. If you changed to LED bulbs for the cornering lights you won't need a resistor.

You need to mount the resistors in a place the won't get damaged by heat as the resistor will get hot....... That is wht the resistors have cooling fins on them.

If you have any questions, sending you a PM with my cell#.

Thanks for the info. It appears on the site you gave me there are two different resistors. For the front it's the RL2525 and the rear(brake) it's RL-650. I want to make sure before I order. Also with me not having the resistors on now will it damage anything with the electrical system? I have them in now and if I need to change back til I get the resistors I will.

Thanks
Chris

You won't damage anything. Just annoying. Use whatever resistors they recommend.

Good deal! Thanks for all the info. I ordered the resistors along with a few more LED's.

I like the fact that the LEDs do not get hot. They are instant on and instant off. Light output also visually appears to be increased especially where the brake lights are concerned. Adding another brake light bulb and upgrading the 3rd brake light bulbs to LEDs has achieved what I hope will keep the drivers behind me a little more awake. Now I am looking for something similar to this:

LEDs are the best route to go. I so much enjoy the added crisp brightness it gives off at night. Thanks for the location to put the resisters for the parking lights FBM. I orderd the switchbacks from VLEDS.com, they are on backorder at the moment so I have Birdmans silverstars in until I get mine. I just installed a bracket Bigcars4ever made me for the resistors on my taillights. I will put pictures in a thread here shortly. FBM, I will be in touch with you for a few products I've been eyeballing that you have now. Are you working on more stuff for our cars?
