t/c has nothing to do with the trans, is your trans the same as your buddys donor (same year/ model)?
two different versions used from 03-04

The Marauder transmissions are physically interchangeable. There is a minor difference between the '03 and '04 as far as functionality, it can be taken care of in a tune.

Have the transmission serviced. Drop the trans pan and look inside. Marauders work the transmission harder and the transmission needs more servicing. Third and 2nd to 3rd shifts are the first sign of dirty old trans fluid.
Trans service $150 to $250.
New Transmission $1500 to $2500.
Easy decision.

Mine did the same thing once last year. Trans service, and all was well.

Yes, service the tranny first. It's a much much cheaper option.
Traction control has nothing to do with the tranny.
There were minor difference in the '03 & '04 Marauder transmissions.... nothing to stop you from swapping them... but do the service first.

^^^what they all said^^^
If you do just a pan drop and filter, it may take a little while to notice any improvement. If it's been more than 50,000 miles, you should do a complete fluid exchange.
Do NOT let whoever does the work tell you it's OK to use anything but Mercon V.
