I went for a ride today and the shifter did not want to come oput of park.

is there a lockout solenoid so you apply the brake first

i was apply to use pressure to push in the side button and override shifter

Don't know if these cars still have it, but sounds like the brake light switch. I had mine go out on my Lincoln and it would keep the car in park unless you would jam the pedal all the way down..

check to see if your brake lights work. IIRC there are 2 switches on your brake pedal. one of those might be bad. there is an electric brake lockout on the shifter.

Correct, and if you turn the key half-way to the ren position you can shift it out of park, put it in neutral and then start the car and drive it without brake lights.

Took at look at it today and

was locked in park
brake lights did not work
and also i used the remote start to start the car so now it would not shutoff

problem is were they spliced the wire off the brake switch for the remote start shutoff

ALL FIXED

It was a aftermarket problem not one from mercury

check your hot wire for your remote starter. if it gets power from brake switch via wire tap, it may have broke the wire. i had same problem with my car. drove me nuts to find it. not to bad a job to fix. be ready to lay up-side down in the seat.
