Hi Capital Area Marauders,

Although I flew here on business and have a rental car (missing my Marauder), just wondering what Marauder meets are going in in the area while I'm here. Would love to see what others have done to their Marauders. Would love to see what a SC marauder is like.

Also, what must see's are there before I fly back.

I'm already planning to visit Mt Vernon and at least three Civil War battleground parks.

I might get brave and go up to the Metro to see the Smithsonian. What is the metro like? Due to the closed metro stations for the Dulles extension, should I catch the metro at a few stations closer to DC?

Thanks,
Dustin

Hi Capital Area Marauders,

Thanks,
Dustin

How long are you gonna be in the area?

CAM is meeting in Gettysburg, PA this weekend on Saturday, 19 March at 1:00 PM at the ABC Brew Pub on Buford Avenue. Its about a 1.5 -2 hour drive from the Dulles area. >>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=603

Since you are out by Dulles Airport, you should try to see the Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum Annex to the Smithsonian. It is only about 5-10 minutes from Dulles and located just off Route 28. Your hotel should be able to provide directions. Probably really close to your location.

Metro is an easy trip and I use it all the time to go into DC. The Orange Line is probably your best bet. Go to the Vienna station. The hotel should have Metro brochures available in their lobby.

If you are around in April, there is the annual Bert's 50s Diner meeting in the works for 17 April. There's a thread on that one too >>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=69684&highlight=bert

I'm going to be here for two weeks. Just under two weeks now since I've been here a few days already.

I haven't exactly mapped out yet which places I'm visiting and when, but sounds like if I plan it right, it would be great to meet up with other Marauder owners in Gettysburg while I'm hitting the battleground parks. I'm not a drinker but I'm all about good food. I'm trying to hit a bunch of places while I'm here so might not have a lot of time to spend at each place.

Everyone at work here is recommending that air and space museum as well as going to DC. Since the air and space is close, maybe I can hit that early.

I was hoping the car rental would give me one of the last rental Grand Marquis since I like my big Fords, but alas, they gave me a Nissan Altima hybrid. Its ok, but I miss my Marauder already. lol

SR71 Blackird is on display at the museum! If you are into fish the Baltimore aquarium is cool too but thats about 1hr:45 from Dulles. The Smithsonian is def cool.

Like Charlie said...C'mon up to Gettysburg for our CAM lunch this Saturday March 19th!

(Also, don't miss the Smithsonian Udvar Hazy Air & Space Museum right there, next to Dulles! Great museum!)

Here's a link to the Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Center >>>>> http://www.nasm.si.edu/museum/udvarhazy/

We had a great CAM meet there on 31 July 2005 with a turnout of about 18-20 MMs. Afterwards, we all went to Logan's Roadhouse for eats.

What hotel are you staying at? I'm around the Dulles area and my Marauder is a daily driver so I'm around. On Friday nights in Sterling, VA (2 minutes from Dulles), there's a meet up of various muscle, hot rods, imports, etc at the Chik-fil-A.

I don't know when it actually starts but since it's getting warmer and staying lighter out, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few cars out this friday.
