Sorry if this seems like a pointless thread, but...

I went to the storage unit to start the Marauder up today. Crankclickclickclick. After almost 9 years of service, the Motorcraft battery finally gave up.

I usually buy whatever cheap battery is available, but when I priced out VatoZone's selections and some of the other parts stores nearby, I didn't find anything really great. NAPA had some cheap ones...but I wasn't impressed with the quality, appearance, or warranty.

So I bit the bullet and called the Ford dealer, who had a new Motorcraft for $109 with core, which was $20 more than the cheapest battery I was considering. $20 for a Ford part that looks right under the hood is worth it to me. I hope I get another 9 years out of it!

Did you try to trickle charge it? May have just sat too long with a low draw on it. A nice slow charge may be all it needed.

Mine still has the green dot in it. Prolly not long for this world though.

I figured that the writing was on the wall with this one. Even with the car sitting for two weeks with some cold temperatures, it started easier today than it did all year last year.

I almost bought a battery back in July but I figured I'd wait. Today, I had the extra money laying around, which is a rarity.

I went with a Ford OEM replacement while I was NA, had to go to a smaller battery when ImpalaSlayer did my Eaton swap and the car now as a NAPA in it. So far, so good.

FWIW, the OEM batteries have a good warranty on them, and I've typically had them in all my previous vehicles with good service/performance.

Not a pointless thread just shows the quality in our oem batteries if ya ask me. Still have mine, which hasn't skipped a beat!

Battery on my MM is so dead I don't even get dash lites. Going with an Interstate as a replacement. Have one in Ms.D's car for a few years now and it works well.

Dido....my original OEM battery went "south" after 8 years of service last
week. Replaced with another OEM MotorCraft battery BXT65-650.
Interestingly...the new battery does not have the "green eye" to check
the charge. Also, the OEM replacement batteries have red labels,
while the original OEM's were black. I guess... so you can't try to
fool the dealer on a replacement.

Gotta Love It!

Al's right, the appearance of the replacement battery IS different. But it still says MOTORCRAFT on it and that's good enough for me. And if this battery is as good as the old one...I'll be happy!

Replaced my O.E.M. Motorcraft after 6 yrs. with another O.E.M. in 2009 before anything happened.
I don't think you made a bad choice.:)

Got 91 months out of my original OEM battery and went with the Motorcraft BXT-65-650 replacement back in August 2010.

Ours finally died last week also. replaced with a die hard platinum with 930 cca. kinda pricey but I feel worth it.
