shifter? The little disengage button suddenly got real hard to push in. Doesn't matter if you are parked level, slant uphill or downhill.

Sounds like it's time for the O/D switch to be replaced.

Not sure what will happen if it breaks. Car may suddenly stop in the middle of a turn on a busy intersection at rush hour with the transmission locked up. Do you really want to take that chance?

Of course you don't, get it fixed pronto.

Try a little WD-40 sprayed on to a Q=tip amd clean around the area:)

Dust, dirt whatever got in there.

^^^^ Too practical, I like my senario better, Knine frantically waving at a big rig barreling down on the intersection, the driver distracted texting his girlfriend about her "land Mass", or something.

Slide the shaft thats below the shifter down to access the screws that hold it on. From there probably just a good thorough cleaning and reassembly. Maybe DRIVE your car more often dog....:)

My shifter is slightly loose, side to side motion. Are these screws the cause?

Slide the shaft ....:)

This is most likely what caused the problem, TWSS.:D

Yes Tom. IIRC they are Torx screws.

Eww. But how did I know someone would comment on that? :D

It's the top thumb button instead of the O.D. switch, but a pronto pup, I mean a pronto fix, is in my future.

Gonna try this first then.

"Land Mass".
That was my porn screen name. (I'll help you here, my last name is Land)

The shifter itself, between the console and the handle, grab it like your monkey and slide it straight down. NOT up and down. You'll see.

O.K., took it apart and cleaned it, but the problem persists. Thru the hole I see a small cam like device that rolls on a red piece of plastic. Tried to give asmall dose of wd40 to exposed moving parts, nada. The shifter "angle" is still hard to shift with the handle off. What do you think? Thanks, E.

Have a line on the problem as I noted the steering wheel does NOT lock when the ignition is off and key is out. The two are obviously related. Unless anyone has a great idea, it maybe a trip to the stealership to diagnose and cure the problem. :bigcry:

Have you looked from underneath, maybe you ran over someone or something and it is binding up.

The shifter should be wired to a switch on the brake pedal Aaron, not sure on the steering wheel issue.

O.K., are you ready for what the problem was? A fraking fuse. That's right, top right corner dash fuses. Turns out I had no brake lights either.

Also ordered a new set of rears today. Seems when I put the "summer" tires on, they were balding. I guess the cold storage did it
