View Full Version : The Motor Journey........

Well, after chasing a rough idle for quite some time. We have changed just about everything plugs, coils, egr, you name it. Last week after a compression test of all the cylinders, 1-4 ranged betweem 138#-175# and heres where the trouble begins cyl 5 had 35# cyl 6 had 58# and the 7th I thought was going to be the worst but actually had 170# but was wet with oil and not firing much. Cyl 8 was 138#.
So, I said screw it, sell it, and let somebody else put an engine in it. I listed it here and after a few PM's etc, I spoke with Zach. At first his intension was to buy it and put a motor in it. After talking with him he was more convincing me to fix it and keep it along with Musclemerc feeding me PM's of where I can score a Motor and thanks to him, I got one. I figured, heck I'll get some heads change them and my problem solved or maybe have them pulled and fixed ( yeah right ). I was looking at 2K plus just for that route and hardly anyone around here was willing to touch it.
Long story short, or short story long, whichever, I ended up getting a line on a motor and am hopefully going to be going to pick it up ( undisclosed location ) and heading a bit more north with that thing in my trunk to Zachs to put it in on Friday if all works out right.
Today, I began the first part of the Motor Journey, I cleaned out the trunk and got her detailed for the trip. In the upcoming days, I'll document the Motor Journey. Pics and stories to follow.

Your gonna fit it in the trunk??? How much does a MM motor weigh?
IDK man, maybe consider putting a hitch on it and rent the smallest trailer you could find. Or maybe rent a small truck and put the MM on a rental trailer
Zack can surely put the new one in blind folded.

I'm hoping that maybe Zach has an extra badgless grill laying around too..
Of course, the wife thinks I'm nuts to go to such lenghts for a, as she would put it, " Piece of metal that you just can't let go" . I seriously gave a look at all new and used cars out there. Nothing in the market place would cut it. Sorry, nothing that I could afford.

I opted to not buy the cloyes sprockets and keys. Zack says he is going to make it work. Right now I believe the heads are still at the machine shop getting freshened up.
Oh, and he has the cams I ups'd them and he got them a few days ago.

And while your heads are getting freshened. We might be pushing your MM out to put a motor in mine.:argue:

I'm a little confused....you're buying a "new" motor for your MM, putting it in your MM trunk and driving your MM with a bum motor and an extra 500+lbs over 1000 miles to have someone install it for you? That's extreme bro! I think you're my new hero!
I'm in the process of swapping my motor out as well....and I thought I was nuts for shipping my car 50 miles for the install.
Good luck with all of that!

Actually not new but new to me. The used motor that I'm getting happens to be south indiana. The cost of shipping is about 300 or so. Being here in MS and having NOOOOOOOOOOO tools to put a motor in etc. After talking with Zach, I was sure I was going to put the motor install up to him. Fate would have it, that the motor I located was in south Indiana. Being that I don't have a lot of jingle in the pocket, Zach said " stick it in your trunk and drive up to me and I'll stick it in the car for ya" who could resist. I'm usually up for an adventure.
As for the sick lame and lazy MM that i've been driving around, It's been like this for quite a while around 10K miles or so. I make the FL to MS trip constantly 570 miles all the time. When driving the MM on the hi-way, you can't even notice that it's sick lame and lazy. It'll make it.

If your 100% set on going this route then I'm with you. However if you want to, I know a guy with tools.... He has lots of tools ;) ... He might even break out the air tools for a friend in need.

I talked to your wife last week and I think she understands our shared insanity. I just think wives like to bust our balls over our cars.

Picking her up April 3rd huh? Too bad it wasn't April 1st. If I was Zack, I'd say "Check this out!" Pop the hood and take a picture of your face as you looked at the 10hp Briggs and Stratton in the engine bay... :D

Update; Of course when your in the Military things always change. Thats the constant.
So with that being said, I've had to go to plan B. As we speak (write) the motor is getting picked up from South Indiana and heading south via truck ground carrier to Musclemerc's.
Unfortunatly, plan B doesn't include Zach. As he said, " that's okay, I'm busy as heck anyway" But, he will be indirectly involved  hehe.
Plan B consists of; droping the car off to Travis ( Musclemerc ) and giving him the week to knock it out. I'm sure he'll be chiming in here shortly with progress. With all the work the members here have given him buying all his Musclemerc products, I hope he'll have time to get to my engine swap and maybe a few goodies.

Now would be the time for the shorties install and the cooling mod!
BTW how much to make sure he gets no performance mods? If his car is faster than mine I'll never hear the end of it!:neener:

Musclemerc has already got some of it done. But he is keeping what he's doing a secret. Maybe some suprizes in store for me. He does such a great job on all the things he does. It's his attention to detail that makes his stuff stick out above the rest. I CAN'T WAIT!!
