View Full Version : 3" Fuel Filter Upgrade

musclemerc

Sold Out!!!

$42.00 shipped for the first 10 order's

This kit is made to replace the stock 1-1/2" fuel filter with a larger 3" filter setup. It gets rid of the restrictive 90* bends that are attatched before and after the filter that kill's the fuel flow. This is a must have mod for N/A or S/C MM's running the stock non-return style fuel system.
Much like most of my mods I overbuilt this one. I double clamped the lines with the proper fuel injection clamps and used a 3 layer reinforced Good Year hose. The inside of this fuel line is a neoprene tube that is E-85, Diesel, and Vegetable Oil compliant, so their is no need to worry about the possibility of premature failure from the line. The correct 3" filter clamp will be included with the sale.

**The only thing you have to do is unbolt the stock bracket and bend it to accept the larger filter or you can order a 3" bracket from Ford PN# F57Z-9A335-A**

What difference would it make to run just the 3" filter without modifying(hacking up the lines) just my 2 cents. Was an ase mechanic for 15 years for Ford and that doesn't look too safe just my opinion.

And all you have to do is cut the old lines and bend bracket or get the 3" bracket? That's it?

All you need to install the filter is an 8mm socket and a razor knife
I took the bracket off and bent it with a crescent wrench on my bench vise

I did it to my car a year and a half ago. No problems yet

I have run it since my FP swap. The one installed in the pic is my MM.
I have had no problems because I used the proper fuel line. This liner will not swell or breakdown from gasoline or pressure it is 100psi rated. This kit wil come with double clamps on all connectors, mine has only one clamp at the fuel filter. This is good enough for my MM, but for the member's I WILL NOT TAKE A CHANCE WITH IT. Like I said I overbuilt this kit

It's E-85 compliant, that says it all

Your taking out the rubber lines bends that have been known to starve restrict or sometimes collapse. The larger filter stores more fuel.

musclemerc
03-22-2011, 12:06 PM
Here is why this mod is so great. It gets rid or the restrictive bends before and after the fuel filter. It shortens the length of time it takes to get the fuel from the tank to the fuel rail's.
Remember were running a return less style fuel system.

Here is a pic of the small 90* bends and the factory line that is prone to collapse.
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn306/Marauder-Z/FuelFilterMod007.jpg?t=1227661 821

I got this pic from Zack's thread. Look at the diameter of the connectors and the high quality factory line that WILL eventually fail.

Now on to the cost.
The filter is $11.99
My fuel line $10.00 for 18"
The FI clamps $12.00 $1.50 X8
Expedited Shipping $7.00

Total: 40.99

Where is my profit?
I know, there is'nt one... But as I have said for years now, I don't do this for money. I do it for the LOVE of Marauder's

Many can attest to this fact. Check my friends list and PM anyone there. Or check out my 100% positive feedback. :burnout:

Weaksauce.

My '93 has 3" filter standard.
and none of the kinking, either. I am using fittings that attach in a similar fashion, except they are AN adaptor fittings. If I wasn't using AN fittings and braided hose, I would be all over this. Comes with everything, does it come with the filter, and which brand of filter?

Yeah the factory cheaped out on us with the filter setup.

Everything is included filter, double FI clamps, 3" band clamp, and 100psi E-85 compliant hose.

My competition would like the member's to think that I use AutoZone filter's but the one he showed is completely the wrong part number.

Doesn't anyone manufacturer a coupler for the filter that doesn't have the 90deg bend and is straight through ???

That would make more sense to put on each of the rubber hose lines to attach to the filter.

It doesn't need to be a FORD item, it just needs to be a fuel coupler with the right ID.

OK I need to clear a few thing's up in reguard's to the hose supplied with the 3" kit's. I began the kit's with a Good Year 100psi hose that has a E-85 complient LINER. Please take note of the word liner, that's the blue thing in the middle of the hose. If this LINER is knicked while swapping filter's, or during the installing, THE REST OF THIS HOSE WILL FAIL.... The rest of the hose is not gasoline proof, let alone E-85 proof. I got a PM from a Member that originally had this issue and he wanted me to know "everyone may not be as adept as I am so stupid proof the kit's and go with a submersible hose". Taking his advice I did just that, I chose a Gate's 100% Submersible, E-85 compliant hose. I did this at my cost to provide a quality kit to the member's.

Some of you have sent me PM's taking issue with the "no name, low quality substitute hose".
Be asured Gate's is one of the BEST HOSE MANUFACTURER'S IN THE WORLD.

If I am wrong other's will chime in.

I know exactly what you mean. The Gates hose feels NOTHING like a conventional rubber hose. I guess only the real car guy's can tell the diffrence

The thing about these 2 member's is'nt the fact that they complained about a free upgrad. It's the fact they both accused me of not being honest, I have not and will not attempt to decieve anyone on this site EVER. :shake:

ctrlraven
04-07-2011, 07:17 AM
I don't see how you were being dishonest? You were offering what you thought at the time was the best part for the fuel mod. You found out otherwise there was something better to offer to members here and now you switched to the better lines and offered the upgrade to members that have the previous kit hoses.

I think that's just good business dealings right there.

In any business there will be a small % of customers who think you are thief in some form of manner.

I'm starting to think all the blown MM engines may lead to a detonation issue. Considering the sloppy design of the stock fuel components. How effective would that corrugated line be with lets say a 1/4 tank of gas.

Look at where the pump lives, no way the sock makes it to the bottom of the tank and I didnt feel a sloosh bucket when I did mine, corrugated FP lines, the 1-1/2" filter, the collapsed bends before and after the filter... How many MM owners have gone WOT with less than 1/4 tank of gas?

I did get three CEL codes P0190, P0000 x2 on my first trip up the street and the car started to bog. Pulled over, pulled the codes and reset them. Car started right up and on my way back down the street I was watching my fuel % on my scan gauge and at idle it was 24% and when I was WOT it was 4%. ??????

I'll keep an eye on it while heading home and see what happens.

^^^What he said

**YOU GUYS PLEASE DO NOT CUT ANY STEEL LINES**

You were suppose to bend it over with a small boxed in wrench till it was straight. It's not a big deal but by not cutting the line you have two raised areas to put the clamp on both sides of

Install Tips are in this thread: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=70420

The P0190 code is one that only SC cars get after upgrading to a bigger FP. I also get this code on startup with my twin SVT pumps. I found if you turn the key forward and wait a second then crank the car it happens less. The reason for the code is the fuel delivery is higher than the perameters in the tune. If you ever get a custom tune the tuner can up the perameters

Consider the P0190 code a badge of honor considering your N/A

I was going off Zack's install thread since I didn't see anything for your's Travis. I'll head back to my shop tomorrow and bend the pipe.

So the codes didn't show back up and only went WOT once. I primed the fuel pump 5 times before starting the car and let it idle for about 8 mins while checking for leaks then drove it. Fuel pressure was 25-28 under 2k rpms which cruising and up to 34 underload. I guess that's better.

You can find the part number that others are using for the 3" filter here.

My filter IS NOT on this list. I use a totally diffrent part number

Is your filter (not the entire hose/clamp assembly) of a higher quality than those found in that list?

Myself and several others have asked the same question throughout this thread..I don't understand the dodging.

I cannot say that it's a BETTER filter as far as the element. But here is some diffrences in my filter.

1) My filter has longer in/out necks to allow me to use a double clamp setup.
2) If you flare one of the filters listed on the thread I posted for you there will be a VERY sharp edge left that can and will cut the inside of the FI hose.

Believe me, I tested ALL variations of the 3" filter and my parts by far are a better kit that will allow you to swap filters in the future without worring about damaging the FI hose. Why do you think I went from the GoodYear hose with a liner to the Gates submersible hose that doesnt? This decision came from using the WRONG filter (those on the thread I posted).

Now if you dont plan on swapping the OEM hose, use the filters I posted but if your swapping the OEM lines then you are on your own with those filters.

I have nothing to hide from you or anyone else on the site, you asked for a part number for a 3" filter, I gave you part numbers for 3" filters. I answered your question but do you think I'm crazy? Why would I post my part numbers? That would'nt help me one bit.
