If the car has been well maintained, 148K on the clock is no big deal.

The cars are prone to some minor electrical issues (LCM, EATC, wacky wipers) but overall, they are very reliable vehicles.

Price doesn't sound bad; do you have a trusted mechanic that could look at the car for you?

I think it was a fair price if it was in good shape. Welcome to the collective!

Yes it runs on premium only, unless it's been tuned to run on lower octane. If you don't run premium you end up picking up engine pieces.

Welcome to the site.

Read the owners manual.

Owner's Manual says "91 Octane Minimum". Around here we only have 87, 89, and 93 ..... my MM likes Shell 93 and Sunoco 93 .... and occasionally drinks Exxon 93.

Price is low for a dealer. KBB = $8800.00

There may be "hidden" Issues, like smoky exhaust, pronounced engine ticks, clunks or thumps. Rear gear/axle whine, transmission slippage or hard shifting, diminished braking power, A/C not responsive, lights flashing off/on, rough running engine. Windows don't operate correctly, wobbly tracking on the road and so on.

I would drive it and get a feel for excessive noises as described above, try passing gear and WOT if you can. Some dealers only let you drive in their parking lot.

Check for accidents or flooring.

As suggested in previous post have a Mercury Dealership look at it. May cost $80.00.

Good luck.

Nice ride, good deal and welcome. SCT handhelds are your best bet but Diablo also offers one.

Option 1 Check out the vendors on here for a handheld w/a basic tune made specifically for the MM. The 2 names that have shops you'll hear the most about for MM tuning are Lidio and Rienhart.

Option 2 is hit a local mustang shop if you want to get a dyno tune at the same time. This probably isn't needed if your new ride is stock or mostly stock (i.e. CAI with gears). Most shops will sell the tuner and include a dyno session with your purchase. Not really necessary for gears and CAI but once you start hitting bigger mods like headers, torque converter, etc... you'll need to strap it down.

Welcome to the MM. I think youll love the car! Mine has just over 150K miles now and I would certainly not consider selling it for the 6500 you paid. Soooo, enjoy the shite out of it and try not to get too addicted to mods. Personalize her to your hearts content...the way I see it, you paid about 2 grand under market value so in my warped mind that means you can get it chipped, regeared, cold air intake and dyno tuned and STILL have a few bucks left over to take your sweetheart out for a wicked cruise.

Oh and one other important thing to keep in mind...If you are gonna explore how fast she'll go, remember to click off the OD (the little buttin on the shifter handle) before you warp out. It can save you from needing the transmission worked on. I learned an 800 dollar lesson the hard way. Other than that, I really think these cars are pretty much bulletproof.
