Id rather ask you owners than looking at a magazine article. What kind of milage are you getting both highway and city? Im still hunting my Marauder but with gas jumping 8c here over night it would be nice to know I can get 20mpg out of a merc.

16 MPG or less around town depending on traffic volume and quantity of "spirited" driving.

24.5 MPG on the highway long trips.

I really don't pay much attention to MPG .... I just fill 'er up when it gets down around 1/4 tank.

Gas companies change the additive package depending on the season for drive-ability & starting reasons. Your mileage will usually suffer with the winter mix.

For all you ever wanted to know about it:

I was at about 20mpg with mixed driving. Saw 24mpg once on a highway trip. Then I got a tune and it dropped to 14mpg. Thought there was something wrong and forced myself to drive like a grand ma and it went back to about 20mpg. I can't control myself I'm back to 14mpg to much fun.

I noticed the summer blend being phased in last week, I filled up my 08 Taurus which I haven't been able to get better than 20.4mpg even on the highway. So far I've been getting about 22.7 and almost half way through the tank. I knew something was weird when I normally filled up and it said 391 miles to empty and it's never said more than 346 miles to empty all winter long.

I average about 18-20mpg with 4.10 gears, 3500 stall converter and that's 60% highway/40% stop and go city traffic.

19 city/25hwy pretty routinely. That's with a pretty heavy foot on the pedal. On a trip to Canada, I got 26-27mpg on the interstate runs, and we were averaging 80mph.

My Marauder has the stock 3.55s, a tune, a CAI, and colder plugs. That's basically it.

I see no reason for it not to be a concern for me, Im not modding the hell of out it so whatever they get stock is about what im looking for. I just want to know that im not going to have a wallet buster on my hands with the prices going up like they are. 20mpg is good enough for me, thats double what my Lightning gets right now, and thats going to GO DOWN once the new longblock and fuel system goes in. So the Marauder would be a DD for me :D

It's a double edged sword with this car.

Stock you will get decent mileage but you can get better gas mileage with a tune, intake and opening up the exhaust some. The other end of the sword is that those mods will make you want to drive the car more. lol

Now that I think about it, I know for a fact someone on here has owned both at the same time, he could probably give you the best answers when it comes to comparing Lightning/Marauder MPG's. I think it was gmtech?? Maybe they will chime in for ya.

the lightnings are bad on gas from the get go with the weight and 42lb injectors with dual pumps, lead feet dont help either. then you get into going built with TRIPLE 255 pumps and 80lb injectors.............its all over then :shake:

Me too brother, I wanted one when they first came out in Gen 2 in 1999 but at the time couldn't afford to pay 45k for a truck. So I waited forever and bought my 2004 in April of 07, hell I still paid 30k for it but its been a great truck and Im still playing with it and loving every drive in it. Kind of the same thing with the Marauder for me, Ive wanted one for a while but haven't had the real reason to get one until now, with the addition of my second son the call for a large car with room for 4 is present. What better time to get a Merc :)

I didn't buy my marauder for mpg either, hell, it replaced a 50mpg diesel jetta, but it sure will feel nice to double my mileage when I bring it out of hibernation and retire the Excursion for the summer. :o

Wonder if an exhaust, tune, and some lighter wheels and tires would allow MMs to get close to 30 on the hwy... My mustang almost did it (28mpg from phx to san diego) with 4.30 gears and exhaust/tune/lighter wheels, though that weighs about 1400 lbs less than the MM...

I too am a closet lightning fan... When I bought the mach, I looked long and hard at those as they were close in price, but I bought the mach because it got better mileage and they had a back seat... 1 year later my mach didn't have a back seat anymore, and for the past 4 years it racked up about 600 miles total... Should have gotten a lightning :D

There is a few other little things that you can do as well. Mach 1 chin spoiler, rear skid plate/pro guard, JLT or K&N intake (JLT is a lot cheaper), remove the 2nd set of cats, do a custom mid-pipe, mufflers of choice, larger over axle tail pipes and either gut your stock tips (remove the resonator in them) or buy a new set of res-delete tips.

I was getting 19-21 on the highway before making my mods. Now, with the K&N cold air kit, Granatelli 65,000 volt coil packs, and the full SW exhaust, including long tubes, I'm at 24-26 highway. The RealSpeed/SCT tune didn't hurt either. Tons of power and respectable gas milage. I don't use it around town, so I can't comment on under 50 MPH milage.

just back from an emergency round trip to chicago 2 weeks ago and I got 20.2mpg on the way there (ran about 75-80 with a few miles at higher speeds as I was in a big freaking hurry) and then 23.5mpg on the return trip up north as I wasn't in a hurry and prolly averaged 65-70. Respectable mileage for a big heavy comfy fun baddas sedan having 150k+ miles on the odometer.

PS. Don't ever try to use tylenol PM to get sleep because its cheaper than the OTC sleeping meds. My son lost his job and girlfriend in the same week and was a mess mentally. He was not sleeping at night and the benadril meds were being used to keep functioning and go on job interviews etc etc...he is your typical 23 year old that thinks he's invincible and warning labels are for other people. In one week of taking Tylenol PM well beyond recommended doses he managed to kill his liver...I mean totally kill it. He luckily survived the ordeal by getting a liver transplant at Northwestern Hospital in Chitown...I will post this separately too as a public service thing.

I usually just laugh these days, it is a losing proposition, the better I get it to run the better it should do on MPG
But, the better it runs the harder I drive it the worse I get.
Last run from Stuart to the Keys (250 miles) I burned 3/4 + of a tank. Got a good laugh. :drive:

I have seen as many as 460 miles from a tank.

I get 20mpg city/suburban easily on my 2004 more or less stock. Have K/N cold air induction and "Superchip" which I guess are a help. On long Interstate cruising I average more like 24 to 26. I always plan to set cruise at 55-60 to what I COULD get, but soon fall into traffic flow at 70 to 80. Like others have said, I didn't get this car for fuel mileage; but it IS only a couple of mpg less than my 2003 Grand Marquis LSE.
