i was wondering what everyone thinks the factory OEM baffled tips are worth. I'm thinking of having my exhaust done in 2.5" and would have the factory tips available. I know megs has done limited runs of the non baffled ones for just under 200.

What does the baffling do/supposed to do? Make it quieter or change the tone of the exhaust? Eliminate drone? Does it hurt power in any way? Once eliminated, can the baffling be reinstalled?

Changes the tone.

Makes it a little louder.

Doesn't eliminate drone.

Will not affect power.

Baffling can be reinstalled... it's a pain to get out, but it can be reinstalled.

To eliminate drone you need to move the exhaust tips out past the bumper cover. If you can see the MEGS logo and writing they are out far enough.

Thats what i did when i installed aftermarket mufflers and the tips look better that way too.

i would but i have no idea what to ask for them. what they are worth determines if they're for sale. basically i was quoted 360 to have my back cats replaced with 2.25" pipe into a new H pipe all the way to a set of magnaflow mufflers. if i wanted a bit more sound they said 650 to run everything 2.5" all the way out the back with magnaflows and new tips. if selling the factory tips offset the cost a bit i might do the full system but if they're only worth maybe a hundred dollars then i'll keep them and run the 2.25" setup.

You're going to have to replace the tips with something, so why not keep them and have them re-installed.

I went with 4" res-delete tips a few years back, but kept the old tips. Had flanges welded on both the old and new sets to allow simple swap out if I ever wanted to go that route; something to consider.

Can't really say it's louder, but the exhaust has a more defined tone with the res-delete. I had the tips extended so there's minimal cabin drone, but with the radio off, I can notice a bit of resonance between 2,000 and about 2,300 rpm.

that's just it. if i just do a mid pipe and muffler i'll leave them on, but if i do cat back in 2.5" our tips are only 2.25" and i'd need to replace them anyway or choke it back down to 2.25" at the tips. that would defeat the purpose of going to 2.5" cat back.

to be honest i really don't care about keeping the factory parts. makes no difference to me. my marauder is not a show car by any means. if i can get a couple hundred to help do the whole exhaust and make someone else happy to have another set of factory tips that would be cool. if not then i just do the mid pipe and mufflers.

The 1/4 drop in pipe size that far back will have minimal effect on system back pressure, I wouldn't be concerned about that. The mid-pipe and the mufflers are what will make the big difference.

What brand tips did you get when you did the 4"? Would you happen to know a part number too. I'm on the hunt for 4" chrome tips close to factory length and no resonators

These are Megs tips, I got them from a group buy through Innovative Interceptors a couple years back.

Wes has gone out of business, but you may want to contact Cone Engineering to see what they've got.

Unfortunately the 4" tips never really were popular. We did one small production run and it took almost 2 years to sell them out. Not likely to rub again I'm afraid.

That's too bad, very pleased with the set I purchased through Wes.

Had mine extended about 1 1/2 inches beyond the bumper cover so that the megs logo showw up; I think they look sharp.

How do you remove the resonators?

How do you remove the resonators?

The resonators can be removed by cutting off the tips, cutting the tips, remove the baffles then re-welding the tips back together and re-weld them to the over the axle pipes.

Install a tune. Helps eliminate drone tremendously because the car is in the proper gear at all times.
