Just got the car. What oil do you guys think is best it's got 111k miles it does get hot here in the summer yet so cold in the winter that water will instantly freeze. And with a winter start up I can actually here knock knock knock for a sec. Ohh and oil filter thanks

What oil do you guys think is bestHere we go again...another "what's the best oil?" thread...
Short answer: Whatever oil makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. There IS no "best" oil.
Longer answer: If you drive in Baghdad heat or Ice Road Truckers cold; if you drive like a maniac; if you want to extend your change interval beyond 5,000 miles, then use synthetic. Otherwise, any of the popular conventional oils is fine.
The best filter answer is easy: the factory-recommended Motorcraft FL820S.

If there is one close to you, I was told the house brand oil is Mobil 1

They are all good choices as long as they are full synthetic and if you drive harsh on it change it more often than the recommend 5k mile intervals. Motorcraft FL820S is the best oil filter to use. It has the anti-drain back valve in it to keep oil up in the heads to help lube on start ups.

Amsoil = Good Stuff.
Used it exclusively back in the early to mid 70's, but couldn't find any dealers after I moved South in the late 80's.

I used AMSoil until the price almost doubled per quart and that's when I was doing about 5k miles every 3 months.

No matter what oil you use the FL 820S or one with as good or better silicone anti-drain back valve (I know there are some on the oil nut boards cut apart)

Not really when you consider $60 per tank of gas. $60 on Amsoil is nothing really.

I used AMSoil until the price almost doubled per quart and that's when I was doing about 5k miles every 3 months. Amsoil lubricants are very good but they're hard to find my question is ¿ why if AMSOIL lubricants are so excelent, they are too hard to find and they're not selled by stores like Western auto/Advance auto, Auto zone or Pep Boys ?

Because they are a multi level marketing based operation and selling it through retail channels would kill there excessive profit margin.

Family-owned business with an on-line store for direct order, what's multi-level about that?

I worked at Western Auto in Baltimore from 1967-1971 while in high school and in college. Stockboy, floor waxer, window washer, tire & battery changer, parts specialist, and parttime salesman. Did just about anything and everything that needed doing ....... after school and on weekends. Always had some spending money. :D

The place always facinated me as a little kid. It was my day after Christmas favorite store.
Most of my Christmas shopping was done at Western Auto because I got a very good discount there. Fortunately, they offered a wide selection of merchandise.
My father was particularly hard to buy presents for. He really didn't want or need anything ..... so picking something for him was always difficult.
One year, I got him a 60 month top of the line battery for the '62 Chevy wagon, wrapped it and put it under the tree. He unwrapped it in place because it was so heavy and then asked me "What the H#LL am I gonna do with this ??" Naturally, I was quite disappointed by his "understandable" reaction.
Later that morning, he went out to warm up the car for the ride to church. Guess what ..... no start .... the old battery was dead as a doornail.
15 minutes later ..... with a new battery in place we were all headed down the road. He used to tell stories about the "Most Useful Gift" he ever got for Christmas. Privately though, he thinks that I screwed with the car..... I didn't but the coincidence was unbelieveable.

Walmart here has the best deal on Mobile 1 Synthetic 5w20 5qt jug is 23 dollars and a OEM Motorcraft FL820S is 3.87 I change mine every 3-5k, the same oil change in a shop here is @ or close to $100
If you do it yourself make sure you have a can of brake cleaner spray, to get all the oil off the power steering rack from when you remove the filter...
best of luck to you on your new toy !:burnout:

I run this stuff with the Eo filter and do an annual change.

But it isn't my DD
I think I pat 8.60ish per Qt.
I also run their products in my Dodge Sprinter
My 218K F150
My lawnmower etc.
When you do the math on their extended oil change intervals it really isn't expensive at all. Just initially.
