It occurred to me that there are some meet-ups that transcend regional organizations, and might deserve a forum all their own. What started me thinking about this was the upcoming "Cars'n'Coffee" in Great Falls, VA. The original "Cars'n'Coffee" meets were at the FoMoCo Premium headquarters in Irvine, California and have been held there for years (still are, as far as I know, although I recall the location has changed). Because CnC has a charitable connection, they were able to spread to other cities. A quick Google'll get you Cars and Coffee's International Web Site (http://online.carsandcoffee.info) that links to many USA and European affiliate meetups. So maybe these various "Cars and Coffee" meetups can be moved into this new forum, which will accommodate Austin, Charlotte, Columbus, Las Vegas, Irvine, Hudson Valley and the rest.
After I thought about it a little more (straining my brain and pushing those other marginally useful thoughts to the side - like breathing), it occurred to me that this 'new' forum might also be useful for other transnational meetups - like Louisville, or Carlisle, and so forth. These meets aren't specific to or sponsored by the regional clubs in the area (like the Bert's meet is by the Capital Area Marauders, or the Windy City Marauder's meets at Del Rea's Chicken House), but cross boundaries. The Annual Marauderville meets could go there as well, although I'm partial to our national meet having its own forum.
So, before I stick my foot in my mouth again (trust me, I'm very good at that) I thought I'd post this for discussion, and for possible Moderator approval (especially since most of them are in Louisville right now and can talk about it in person). Since it's my idea, I propose calling it the "Multi-Regional Meet Ups" forum, but if anyone has a better sounding name, that's cool.
On a related topic, I see that vBulletin (the software that powers this forum) has a calendar function built-in. Now, I don't know about you, but I forget things. There exists a modification (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=239402) that allows calendar events to be created for that can be exported to a user's calendar, or printed as a .pdf file. I'd like to hear whether anyone else would like to see this added.
The nice thing about the calendar feature is that, once exported, the calendar automatically updates the user based on any updates to the original event. That would be great for information dissemination and making sure everyone has the same set of information about an event (if they sync their calendars, anyway). According to the linked message, this modification supports the '.ical' standard (Outlook, Thunderbird, Google, others), which also supports various SmartPhones.
So - speak up! Moderators: are you listening (of course you are!)?
