Engine sticker (drivers side front cover)

Anyone know what exactly it's for and the differences between the different motors? 540, 541 and 542? Those are the 3 different engine codes I have seen so far on the MM.

Also I heard someone said there is different between 2003 motor and 2004. Excactly with the pistons put I don't know if that is right. When I check must of the 2004 has 542 number and 2003 a300 has 540 if I'm not mistakin

It might relate to the program used in the PCM, 2004s are all the same, 2003s have two different programs.

Makes sense as all of the 2004's I've seen have 542 including mine.

I'd have to look to be certain but I'm fairly sure my 300b is a 541. Damn, now I want to know too!

Never understood why Ford put that damn ugly sticker there. It just looks like it shouldnt be there at all. Mines says 541.

Most likely has to do with production changes, what they would be other than the double knock sensor on the '04 I dunno...

Mine is "542" and whatever they stuck it there with is pretty dang TOUGH!!:eek:

I think that's the horsepower output on our motors,lol. But yeah always wondered what that sticker was all about.
