Car is running at 11.7XX at 118mph. At the end of the track I'm getting minor vibration. Nothing serious. My question is simply if an upgrade/replacement to aluminum/PI is necessary at these speeds, and if it would help performance/time wise.
Thanks in advance.
If your worried about it then do an upgrade, you don't want to loose a driveshaft on the big end.

Find a late 1999 to early 2000 CVPI mmc driveshaft (most can be had for under $200), have it checked out, re-balanced if needed and new hardware installed and put on a driveshaft loop if you don't already have one.

Tail shaft failure is no fun and you are getting into the range of danger. You may never have an issue but why risk it. There is a company in Fairfield NJ called the Axle Exchange that will build you a driveshaft to military spec and they weigh like 30 pound so you'll save some weight. Only thing is I believe it's expensive like 600. to 800. dollars. Like they say "If you want to go fast".... or get yourself one of the MMX shafts discussed above. Good luck.

deff, you dont wana let that ***** eat at the big end. you will lay down a oil slick for yourself and prolly smack the wall.
as for performance, not really sure

It needs to be balanced just like your wheels. Small differences in weight are more pronounced the faster something spins.

as for performance, not really sureand if you dont have a driveshaft loop it can break out of the tailshaft case, dig into the ground and there you go flying. its definately only a safety mod.

If you are going to spend big coin ($800) on a custom driveshaft buy a Carbon Fiber Driveshaft from PST.
Carbon Fiber is extremely stiff and vey light...but NOT cheap.
They built one for me and it weighs 13 lbs....it is a thing of beauty.
Too bad it's tucked up under the car....:(

It's also used to keep the driveshaft from flopping around and causing damage to the underside of the body.

At the speeds your running a driveshaft hoop is a must and probably a safety requirement at the track.
