Hey,
Have any of you had a problem accl from a stop when cold? My MM seems to not want to go when I step on the gas in the morning. If I give it 1/4 or more throttle, it almost stalls, then catches. Not like a trans problem, but more like fuel delivery. Also it runs real rough when cold. Once it is warm, it is fine. I'm taking it in next week for a rough idle reprogram on the ECM. Will this help my accel prob?
Thanks,
Eric

Eric:
I've never had the problem, but others have reported luck with the PCM update fixing a cold idle/cold stumble issue...what is your PCM catch code and are you a 300A or a 300B?

Mine did that when stock.
the dealer reflash will help, but it may still be there.
Having DR flash your computer or adding a chip will make it go away 100%.

How Cold is it when you are expierancing problem? Never noticed it in Texas but it don't get real cold here.

We're seeing it with ours as well. It never happened until the idle air control valve was replaced to cure rough running when cold, but it had never stalled before then. The stalling is exactly like the base note states: you're sitting there idling (even with a warm engine) and you step on the throttle to get into traffic and then it just dies with no forward lunge at all. It's pretty unsafe and disheartening when you only get on chance every few minutes to break both lanes of traffic and the thing just dies on you. Yes, I have had the latest reflash as of mid-august, on a BMD0 300A. When they worked on the IAC valve, thjey looked for any updates to that flash and said there was nothing new that was applicable. I need a real tune.
edited to add ambient temps: 30s to 40s

The eec software upgrade flash from the dealer solved my cold starts on the BMD0 300A.

Had the problem too, but, after bout 6000 miles or so seemed to "break in" and all is well now without any dealer "help".

I am a BMD0 300A also. Mine had a slight stumble when cold. I am now running the Superchips program with no stumble anytime ever.

I have a 300A model. How do I know what my PCM catch code is? I figured that the car had old gas in it since it sat on the lot for a year, but it never got better after 1300 miles. Yesterday, I almost got killed trying to cross a busy street. I stepped it down, and it fell flat on it's face, then hurled into oncomming traffic. I figured I should get this looked at. It was 15 degrees today when it acted up.

It's on a small white sticker, with black letters and a bar-code, on the driver's A-pillar, next to the upper door hinge...should be 3 letters and a digit...(example: BMD0...)

NOMARQUIS, well at least you have a great bike in the VF1000R. I have 3 VF1000Fs and hope to have a complete one in the next year. Nah I will sell them anyone interested.

What is a VF1000F? Is that less agressive? I love my 1000R. It rocks!

The 1000FR was only made in 84. I was the predesessor to the 1000R. The Rs had gear drive cams as the Fs had chain drive cams. Thye 86 R had the best frame suspension combo and handles well for an old bike. If your not running radial tires on it you are really missing some great handling. Dunlap DT205s or Avon Azories.
MM content: before my DR chip my motor i9dled at about 500 RPM. Fast Idle was about 8-900 RPM. After the DR Flash chip idle is at 7-800 rpm and fast idle is 1400 rpm and comes down real quick as the engine starts to warm. It is down to under a 1000 RPM in less that 30 sec at about 25 deg. Chip has a lot of bang for the buck. Highly recommended and approved.

mtnh,NOMARQUIS, I also have the BMDO and the Dealer reflashed it with the upgrade and no more problems.
I also had the IAC valve replaced.
