:type: Hello again Marauderers tech experts, I ask myself what needs a transmission to make it Hard, stronger and last longer and that's why I called to this thread with the title using the description for " BULLETPROOF" which will need a transmission 4R70W/4R75W in mods to make it last longer and very stronger, so I have plans when I did the Overhaul of the BP74i Panther transmission to make several mods so suggestions, advices will be welcome to this thread and for future references to other future newbies to look for information about what to do at the time to modify a 4R70/4R75W transmissions, :thanks: Marauderers for the time to read and contribute to this thread.

Wrap it in Kevlar? Put a trans cooler that is so big it completely blocks off the radiator.

J-mod would be the first step.
Get a tune. Don't open up your transmission unless you have to. I love you, bro but you are not pushing enough:burnout:to worry about a bullet proof transmission. I have been tempted for years to do the j-mod, though. I think I will do that when I have a free weekend.
Put it in a DTR!
They don't make enough power to break anything!

Doing the Jmod will increase the life of the transmission as well as shifting firmer and faster for that slight add of performance.

How does the J mod increase the life of the trans? Just curious as I thought it only made the shifts firmer.

Basically you are following the instructions of the man who designed our trans so you know you are in good hands if you follow the steps correctly.
That, and this is a mechanical change, so you are gaining some "chirp" while improving things and not relying on software.
On a practical level, you are opening up 10 or 11 holes (not sure...haven't done mine yet but its happening in the next week or so) in the valve body
separator plate = increased fluid flow throughout. And, in the process you are doing a fluid drain & fill with new stuff - always nice every now and then.
Finally, if you want to go beyond the accumulator swap you will also replace some wear parts such as the piston, pressure regulator
valve & spring, maybe a pressure control solenoid. All do a favor to the lifespan of the trans.
I'm not an expert (yet) so this is just my .02 but I'm doing a Jmod very soon and
its been on my list for a while. Lots of info here and on TCCoA - just search "jmod".
Best,
Jonathan

It takes the internal friction out of the tranny. Less friction means less heat and less wear which equals longer life of the internals.

How does the J mod increase the life of the trans? Just curious as I thought it only made the shifts firmer. It's that very improvement in shift firmness that increases longevity. Less slip on the clutches means less wear and less heat generated.
The reason the factory doesn't do it that way is that a majority of people WANT the shifts to be as unnoticeable as possible. Dealers would get too many complaints that "the shifts are too harsh". Just like they got complaints that "the oil pressure is all over the place" when they had real working gauges, so they started installing the fake ones that show the pressure is "perfect" at all times. :shake:

not sure what has. i know it has a harden shaft, bans it's a total rebuild kit. reinehart has it listed on his site. it says marauder level 2 kit..think it's $450

The level 2 kit replaces all the "soft" parts in the transmission with upgraded parts, kevlar bands, clutches, etc.

dennis told me it also came with a hardend shaft,i must admit i'm not really sure what that is.

I believe is the input shaft that everyone breaks in half during spirited driving.

Dennis commented on this part in this other thread:

If you're interested give Dennis a call, I'm sure he can give you a lot more information about it. I've been meaning to dig mine out and post a picture of the parts and might try to get it done later this week.

Well Mangs, after all this the point of this is to make a "BULLETPROOF" 4R70W or 4R75W is the following
1- Do the J-mod or at least buy a valve body with J-mod done if you don't feel confident to do it yourself.
2- Do the Overhaul with the Level 2 kit from DR.
3-Replace the stock trans pan for a race one with extended tranny oil capacity.
4- If you want to keep cool the transmission install a trannny Cooler or have it in combination with the stock one.
If i'm not wrong I can understand that this are the 4 steps to make a Panther tranny, stronger, Harder, last longer if I forget something or any expert here understands to add feel comfortable to post, my purpose of this is to clear the doubts and post the quicker and detailed steps to do a really overhaul job for a 4R70W & 4R75W, thank you really to all Marauderers tech experts Mangs that contribute in this thread. YOU'RE THE BEST. :banana2: :burnout:

Watch that your trans cooler does not block/throw heat on the radiator driving up coolant temps. Trans is less expensive than engine.
