View Full Version : Wanted To Buy National Backorder?

I believe the part I need is the PCM, I will talk to my mechanic in the morning and update with part number. According to him it is on national backorder, and the only one he has been able to find so far is in an open box at some parts house in Utah or some place, and we don't want to risk it having a problem too cause we can't return it if we buy that one. My inspection sticker has been out for more than a month and without this part I can not pass inspection. Our next step is to take it out and send it to a place to see if they can fix it, that will cost me $200 I don't have, literally, but that is another long story. before I come up with the funds and see if it can be fixed I wanted to see if someone here has one they are willing to part with for a reasonable price.
Please help.

We replaced the cam sensor which was the first problem the computer thing said, then after resetting the code and going through diagnostics the PCM was the last thing he checked...can't remember what he said was up though. It i a very reputable shop I don't believe they would B.S. me. Is there something specific I should ask when I call in the morning?

in my experience being a diagnostic tech its probably a one in a million chance that the pcm failed. most of the time its a wiring issue with most cars. especially with cars that sit for long periods of time small animals like to make nests and chew wires. you can scope the cam sensor and blow up the signal to make sure there are no glitches in it. you could also have an oiling issue that might be messing up the valve timing. id get it looked at again. do you happen to know the fault code?

I can probably get the fault code, but the pcm became the problem after the cam sensor was replaced and the computer reset.

yea that just doesnt sound right. i would hate to see you go threw the hassle of getting a pcm and it not fix the problem. if it was a fuel injector fault then maybe i would say yea it could be the pcm but a cam sensor is very unlikely it could be mechanical inside of the engine. could be a timing chain that skipped a tooth due to a bad tensioner

Do you have power to the PCM? I had a 1995 CVPI that had the PCM wire rub through over the right front bumper frame absorber.

Check the wiring harness at the rear of the drivers side head.

I am going to pick the car up saturday and check some of these things before I go after a pcm. What do you mean by driver's side head? where is the pcm located anyway? Being a total car noob, do I have a chance at checking this stuff myself?

Stu.....why dont you call Wes....he may not have a Marauder anymore but I dont think he would mind helping you diagnose the problem.

As viewed while sitting in the drivers seat.
Drivers side = left side of the car.
Passengers side = right side of the car.
Open the hood, the left side aka drivers side is the side where the air intake is.
Look between the back of the engine and the firewall. You will see a wiring harness about 3 inches around. That harness may rub against the bracket (silver colored) and the screw. If the harness wiring is damaged, it needs to be fixed.

Had it checked out again, PCM is the problem. Part# 3U7Z12A650AMB, I have a sticker inside the door that says BMD0, so I guess that's the catch code. Really need one if anyone can help, inspection ended in March and this thing is keeping my check engine light on.
on a side note...I bought the thing used, how can I make the keypad on the door work? I have aftermarket security system if that matters.

I have a pcm but before you buy one or mine....doesnt matter, what is the car doing.
Unless you have the key that was programed to the PCM you are buying, the PATS system will prevent the car from starting(assuming the replacement doesn't have a custom tune & the PATS was turned off)... Your keys will have to be reprogrammed to the new PCM, before it will start...
I'm another that concurs that the PCM is seldom the problem... I did have a problem with the one in my '93 Lightning(bad capacitor that I repl), but time catches up with about everything...
