I didnt know what other forum to put it in so i just chose this one.
Long story short, a friend of mine has been popping off for the longest about if we were to line up he would leave me.
he has a 03'-04' (dont remember the year) Monte Carlo SS, the Intimidator one with the supercharger on it. he has a CAI and put a smaller pully on it which he claims helped him out a whole lot... even tho the car is wrong wheel drive and a v-6.
All i have done is a tune and a CAI and minimal exhaust work (cats deleted and flows).......
If we were to line up..... would he leave me?
i know from a roll i would drag his ass..... but what about from a dig?... i believe he would have a lot of wheel hop or just spin i think i would get him.
im just wondering what you all would think of this match up

According to Car and Driver...
Power (SAE net): 240 bhp @ 5200 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 280 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm
C/D-TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 6.5 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 18.2 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 6.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 15.1 sec @ 93 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 112 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 186 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.83 g
Im predicting a lot of wheel spin from him and unless he has a tune to remove the speed governor, he'll run out of top end pretty quick. I beat a Supercharged Grand Prix GTP pretty easily before I had a convertor, but Im not sure of the mods.
If I were in this situation I would do it. Take it to a track tho of course. If you win, all the people there will see it, if you lose, all the people there will still know you have the better car overall just because of the cool factor.

I'm betting you will pull him. Unless he can get a good launch from a dig, he may jump ahead a bit, but can't see him staying in front of you.
The Monte Carlo is about 900 pounds lighter, and lacks 70 - 80HP as compared to the MM.
Go for it!

If it's SC'd, it's prolly a 2004 or 2005.
http://www.ehow.com/list_7265017_2004-carlo-ss-supercharged-specs.html
"The SS option came equipped with Chevy's 3800 Series II supercharged V6, a 3.8-liter displacement, six-cylinder engine fitted with a 90-cubic-inch supercharger. An electronic fuel injection system fed gas through two valves per cylinder, for a total of 12 valves and a compression ratio of 8.5 to 1. Chevrolet paired this engine to its Hyrda-Matic four-speed automatic transmission...The 2004 Monte Carlo SS could achieve 240 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and crank out 280 ft.-lb. of torque 3,600 rpm. Car and Driver praised the high torque and complimented the improved performance over the previous model year, which did not offer the supercharged option. The SS could accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and reach 93 mph in the quarter-mile with a time of 15.1 seconds."
Stock SS vs. stock MM specs are a pretty close match. Depending on what pulley size he's running, he might give you a pretty close run. Big difference is in vehicle weight, the MC's about 900 lbs lighter.
1. I wouldn't run him for pinks.
2. Make sure you do it on the track.

He will pull you at any speed, if he has a pulley he has tune.
Put it to you this way, my friend had a 4 door gtp pullied with exhaust and cai he. Did 14.2 at 98mph with a 2.4 sixty foot.

A previous manager at work had a 2005 Grand Prix GTP with the 5.3L V8...303 HP and 323 TQ (not at the wheels). He let me drive it once and I was not highly impressed. FWD FTL...

A friend has one with the same mods as this one, my MM is stock, we played a lot, and it is a dead even race. Go play and never feel embarrassed. I've challenged many vettes, when it comes time to race and you tell them to put four passengers in it they always back down.

Yeah, so do most ricers with the big ol' fart cans and gigondo rear spoilers... ;) ------> :D
It should be a pretty good run, and even if he does beat you, he's gonna have a whole bunch of respect for your big black sedan afterwards.

Whatever gen before this last body style for the Grand Prix GTP, a tune, intake, pulley and cat-back exhaust would put the car in the WS6 Firebird range.

I did , once, from a 45-50 roll, I peered over to a big grin that was creeping ahead of me then I got a Trilogy :P
Actually I've most certainly been beat by others even since the blower!
When you go racing there is always someone a wee bit faster :burnout:

This really sounds like a guy I worked with once, except I think his was the 5.3 v8 version... He swore he ate mustangs for breakfast. Wasn't pretty when he lined up with the mach. :burnout:
It might be a good match for your marauder... stick some gears and DR's on there, and you'll murder him from a stop :)

Correct. It's all in the driver. I beat an SRT8 Charger in an Chevy SSR racing down a highway in California. Non-Turbo for me.
When you go racing there is always someone a wee bit faster :burnout:
There is no reason why we cannot be that someone. It's all on how you pick your battles too. I won't race anything off a trailer unless it's a long distance... then they don't wanna race. ;)

Who get's sloppy seconds?

Yes they move, but forced induction to bolt ons isn't a fair comparison and you know that.
Stock for stock its a close race. I ran a 14.9 with a stock GTP when my car was going 15.3. Then again take the blower off the GTP and see who wins. It would be a 16 second car, probably mid to high 16 second.

Yes but either is 6 cylinder vs 8 a fair comparison. Put 2 more cylinders on the chebby and see what happens.

I was typing about N/A to N/A. Cylinders are different, but it all comes down to power to weight. We all know it.

worry not young jedi about outcome, and commence 4 door V8 ass beating. Lose or lose not, either way post as a victory.

Good point ! something to be said for someone who can come in 2nd with grace.
Half the fun too is beating a faster car , that's why once you guys figure out what each of your cars run respectively, you can grudge match to keep it as close as possible.

Heres a blast from the past.
Krytin racing a supercharged Grand prix GTP on our private track on Long island. All Paul had was a tune with a intake. He still has 3.55 gears.

The newer SC V6's are slower than the older ones. My friend's wife has had 2 Pontiac GTP's and the 01 was way faster than the 03. They removed the "sport" setting to preserve transmission life and added a bit of weight, it made the cars much slower than the previous ones. I raced the 03 a few times over the years and it was close when the Marauder was near stock, once I put in 4.10's it was a non issue, even with a mild pulley on the GTP.
