A few months ago, I posted this thread (http://mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=68885) about my participation in the Iceball 440, a time-speed-distance rally held in the NE Ohio area.
Well, the time has come again for another TSD in this general area. This one is the Cannonball 440.

FROM THE ORGANIZERS: The way the winner is figured out is:
We run the course 3 times, usually coming within .1-.2 miles of the google maps mileage and we keep time.
We then average those 3 times and milages to create an "Ideal" time/mileage.
There are 2 winners one for closest on time and one for closest on mileage.

I have no geographic advantage this time, as I do not know anything about the general North Ridgeville area.

If you're in (and you SHOULD be, because this is seriously fun stuff!), post here...

It's not a speeding contest. Speed refers to an avg along a given distance that must be covered as close to a given time. All legit TSD's use posted speed limits or less.:)

Very true. Most TSD's I've run were set at average 10% less than the speed limit, so people who got lost wouldn't need to speed too much.

Seems silly calling a TSD a "Cannonball" though.

We've done a few TSD Rallies in our area a number of years ago. It was a lot of fun. Came in 4th on our last one, which is pretty darn good!! You could probably do it without a navigator but it's be pretty hard because you have to read the directions on the fly.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend doing one of these on the fly. Have Ken help you!

The directions sheet for the Iceball 440 was 3 pages long, and the font was smallish (but readable). And there was a lot of (for example) "repeat step #48" which forced you to go BACK a page and remember what step 48 was. This rally does not encourage speeding, but the planners run the course at night and during low traffic hours. So some "spirited" driving may be necessary to keep your time figures in check.

The "Cannonball" term is maybe a bit erroneous, but I believe that is a grandfathered name from some of the earlier TSDs in this area. The Akron folks have been calling them "-ball" rallies (Nightball, Iceball, etc...) depending on the circumstance.

I came in 3rd in the Iceball and won the "Leadfoot" award earlier this year.

North Ridgeville is about 20 minutes away. Am through there regularly. I'm interested, and free after 1 PM.

^^^These are instructions for a pretty intense TSD. This one will be way more elementary and a lot more fun.

There was a mother/son Mustang team in the last TSD I did.
