My car was at drive idle 600rpm very smooth. Could barely tell it was running at stop lights, the problem was half the time it was not. Took out my new Xcal 3 and in a few minutes adjusted custom tune drive idle to 700rpm, test drive thru town and problem solved, so easy a Caveman can do it.:D

Start playing with it more often, there is alot the Xcal can do.
Learn how to datalog, then it become's a must have tool

Tuned by Dennis last Friday I'm happy with the results for now.

Yes I can see, downloaded LiveLink 6.3 very interesting.

As a "caveman" when it comes to comprehending tuners :o , will I notice any difference if I use an Xcal 3 on a stock '04 MM?
Thanks in advance!

If you have tunes for it from a tuner that advances the timing a bit, increase some shift pressures here and there, yes. If you get tunes that take into account a shorter gear change, cold air intake, etc., you'll notice even more.

I tried to download and use LiveLink and couldn't understand a damn thing about it. Someone should post a "Caveman" tutorial on that!

Actually, it looks intimidating at first, but, it's really simple once you do it a few times. First, you need to log certain basic pids. PM me your email and I can actually send you a nice basic Livelink configuration file. Once you mess with it, recording dat, you can add and subtract pids and make your own custom to what you want to see. Plug your SCT3 into the ODB2 port (always plug it straight in at the port's angle, you can bend pins). Once the tuner lights up, you can turn on the car, plug the usb cable into your laptop, open up Livelink, goto File, Open Livelink Configuration, open the file you received/built, open it, click yes to talk to the cars computer, once the buttons in the top left are colored, click on the green one to start logging, red to stop, save the file. You can check off PIDs on the left to view their specific data on the graph.

This shows how to wire a wideband to firewire to SCT tuner and logging:

^see, I couldn't even get to that part of it. That might mean that I'm too dumb to comprehend it. And honestly, I wouldn't know where to go from there or what to change.

I think I'll stick with the basic things the XCal lets me change.

Nah. It's like riding a bike for the first time, you have to jump on first...

If using the datalog feature on a PC is too intimidating for you then check out SCT's Dashscan. It's a datalogger along with a lot more for way under 100.00

I'm with you Adam!
Even knowing what all that info means in that example above...I wouldn't know what to do with it afterwards.

Sheesh! It's not so bad... The marker (which you just click to where you want it with your mouse) is at 133.593 seconds into the run. You can see that TP absolute (Throttle Postion) is @ wot. You can see that the rpm hit 6,927 rpms, Air Fuel Ratio (Wideband) shows way too lean @ 16.018, coolant temp is 186°, Fuel Pump Voltage is 9.688 Volts, Fuel Pump Duty Cycle is @ .442 volts, Load is at .961 (volumetric efficiency), LTFTs (Long Term Fuel Trims) are @ 1 (It's in OL (Open Loop) so no AFR PCM correction going on, STFTs (Short Term Fuel Trims) are @ .859 because that's what is being commanded in Lambda for OL AFR (14.64 x .859 = 12.57 afr, in closed loop, it tries to keep the engine @ Stoich which is 14.64 afr, MAF AD Counts is Mass Air Flow (How much air mass is flowing into the engine at any given moment), Pressure Drop Fuel Injectors is just that, the fuel pressure at the rail and @ the injector, Spark Advance is pretty obvious, how far ahead you ignite the air/fuel charge being compressed in the cylinder, Spark source is where the spark is being commanded from, Spark Source 1 being from the Base Fuel Table...
Capiche??? :D

Good thing you did'nt have to tell them how to change the colors on the guage panel

Excellent work as usual Bill ;)

I don't personally know any tuners, but once the extended warranty is up, I'll have to pick one of these Xcal 3 and make new friends!

Thanks for your response RacerX!
