View Full Version : Nails in BOTH my rear tires

Wound up with nails in BOTH my rear tires yesterday

These were brand new at 52K when I bought the car and still minty fresh at nearly 65K

One side had a sidewall puncture, other side was repairable. Fronts had been wearing the inside, they were approx 5-10K miles before I got the car.

So.. this lead to the conclusion that a whole new set was required.

Having to shop for tires when your car is essentially disabled is a fail position. I furiously searched around for alternatives and wanted to get the continental extreme contact DWS 235/50/18 front and 255/55/18 rear.

BUT... Those are on Backorder :puke:

No local stockers of the Nitto 420S and any other combos were not very desirable probably worse than the BFG

So.. they did have the Factory spec Gforce TA KDWS at the warehouse So I had to get em :burnout:

Moral of the story, I should have ordered a set of the Conti's when I found out how my fronts were wearing, having to fix the car NOW forced me into the tires I really did not want, even though I am fairly happy with the stock tires I know there are better choices for the same price. You should read some of the Tire Rack reviews on the KDWS!!!

That's a bummer (nice "A Christmas Story" reference though).

I like some of the BFG offerings of tires, just not the KDWS. I have some KDW tires on my Mustang and they are nice and I really like the All-Terrain T/A tires that I have on my Bronco, but the KDWS are not particularly good at anything.

I had 2 nails in my left rear and 3 in my right rear at the same time. Talk about MAJOR downer.

Also had a bolt in a rear tire once, it actually went in the tire head first, I couldn't believe nor did Pep Boys (who patched it) they took pics and laughed at it.

What, do you normally drive your car through construction sites? ;)

No, the only thing I can think of in regards to the nails is there is a roofing company at the end of my street at work and it was roofing nails that were in both of my rears.

Yeah it was much closer to my actual response!!

Going from gee my tire is leaking to FFFFUUUUUUUU I gotta shell out $970 for tires/Mount/Balance/alignment in a few hours was a tough pill.

Keep at least 1 old front and rear tire as a spare in case of emergency.

Fronts were worn on the inside to the point they would not be worth re-mounting.

Do have the non-ruined rear tire, and the shop plugged it and put the inside patch on.

Even that one was awful close to the edge. Such a shame there was so much life left in those rear tires.

BTW Town Fair tire had at least 4 other matching front/rear tires in stock with 235/50/18 and 255/55/18 combo BUT.... All those combos had the larger rears with lower speed rating!! How about that for strange, The Dunlop SP-5000 was pretty good ratings too but the 255's were H rated and the fronts V rated

This is only the second time I had a good tire ruined by road hazards in 25 years.

The shop plugged this tire, the other one was just as nice.

thats a sign to ditch those rear BFG'S and get some 295's back there.
