View Full Version : A different FOG LIGHT thread...

So as not to pollute the other fog light thread that is being discussed in this forum over the past couple weeks, I figured I would start this one as I have a different issue. I did do a search, but did not find the answer to my question.
My passenger side fog light is intact and working.
My driver's side fog light HOUSING is intact.
The problem is that the...uhhh...socket (I guess that's what it'd be called) is no longer intact. In other words, when you plug in a new bulb, it does not actually PLUG IN, it just kinda falls out. It's been like this ever since I owned it.
Has anyone ever experienced this, and what did you do to fix it? Was actually thinking it might be possible to splice/solder something...
I've searched RockAuto and they don't have the part I need. I suspect this might be a dealer part; I also fear that it might be something that is no longer produced or stocked...

I'm almost leaning towards trying to make something like this work...

To get a new bulb socket you would need to buy a new fog lamp housing.
I kinda had the same problem when I was doing my HID fog light mod. I ended up buying two new fog lights off a user on ebay for I think $85. My OEM fog lights were pretty sand blasted and had seen their share of road rash so I figured I'd just replace them anyways and keep my OEMs as spare.

I didn't think those eBay ones came with the socket that connects to the harness. That's what I need...but at $85 it's gonna have to wait, because $85 is STAP money...
And I've been looking at Ford part WPT692, but that does not appear to have the H1 socket on the other end. Just the pigtail to connect it to the harness.

I thought it was determined that our fog light housings were the same as some Mazda Miata application? It was posted here a while back...

They are.
Again, the fog light housings in my car are fine.
It's the socket itself (the thing that's connected to the harness) that is no longer good.

I've never messed with the foglights on either car, so I wasn't aware the socket is not part of the housing...my bad.

No big deal. I am PMing back and forth with a member about a possible solution to my problem...should have an answer by Friday if I can crawl under the car (we're forecasted to have lousy weather all week though).

I should have a cheap fix (less than $10.00 including shipping) for this problem. Just have to get the parts and test it out first.

That'd be awesome, but I already said "okay" to Roger (motown marauder) about buying some parts off of him that should almost definitely fix it.
But I can't imagine I'm the only one to have this problem, so maybe posting a writeup about it would work?
...or, in the event that Roger's parts won't work for me, I will be needing another solution.

I pulled the socket out today and much to my surprise, half of the metal piece that the bulb plugs into was missing! Guess that explains it.

As of today, both of my foglights are now in working order. I couldn't have done it (and I owe a big thanks) to motown marauder coming through and selling me a needed part at a good price.
Cheers!
