View Full Version : Braking into a skid

I have 14 in KVR brakes (bad decision to buy) whose rotors were recently machined flat.

I have noticed that over the years since I bought the care new and had Kenny Brown do a conversion, I have never had the car skid on a straight away stop. Is it correct to say that the tires surface area is so great that the barkes can't get the tires to skid?

If the brakes were bigger, I could probably stop in a shorter distance without skidding. Is this correct?

Thank you.

Marauders have Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) that work to keep the wheels from locking up and the car from skidding in a stop. This optimizes your stopping distance. If you are skidding, your stopping distance will actually be greater. Wider tires offer more friction surface. Yes, bigger brakes should stop you quicker/shorter.

I have the KVR 14" kit, but I upgraded the rotors to the DBA rotors. The upgrade required the purchase of Baer hats since the KVR hats have a different rotor mounting hole pattern.

I'm not sure what my dealer did. I'll check with him.

Thank you for your thought.

To add to Bluerauder's comments........

Marauders have ABS, and an anti dive brake technology that came from Volvo called Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.
EBD works by modulating braking to ensure the car tracks straight and stays reasonably level under extreme braking conditions. This is biased towards the rear brakes I believe...

Hauling the Marauder to a stop in a reasonable distance is primarily done with the front brakes.
