Have you thought of a JLT CAI?
Don't know if they make one for a CV but you might be able to adapt what they have.

What year crown vic? I am asking because on my 05 cv, I put on a cvpi air box and zip tube and experienced detonation. Too much air. I removed the box and am just using the zip tube with stock box and k&n... no problem. If I were to do more work to the engine, I will switch back to the larger maf meter the cvpi intake and use a tuner to fix the problem. I do believe the older cvs are less prone to detonation with air flow mods.

I am certainly not a sir... I was enlisted! I do believe that 2001 crowns use a different meter for the air intake... you should be fine. Just a footnote... the police car air boxes that are 2005 and newer are same as marauder air boxes, I think. Good luck! It will improve throttle response and be a little more fun to drive to boot.
