I have wanted to do this ever since I tore the engine down and worked on it.
Lets face it when the metal on stuff starts to look weathered and out of sorts with the looks on the rest of the car it is a lot harder to get a win @ a car show. So I was way over due.

Here is the entire process I will post in pics from start to end in this thread.

Please do not comment till I am done with the thread parts and get all the pics up of the finished project thanks!

This is what was on the car and how it looked for starters with the wheels on and off.

And here are some pics of how much brake pad I had left as well as highlighted pics on what to do to get the rear rotors off easier as well as what you should clean and about using lock tight on bolts to make sure nothing backs off while driving.

Now here is the paint work process for all of the new parts. This serves a dual process 1 to make sure nothing rusts and second for me to match the color work I did in my engine compartment.

This is a 3 step process using Duplicolors VHT paint for Brakes. Each step needs to be cured in an oven @ 200 degrees for 1 hour after the paint sets for 24 hours.

First is the primer/adhesion promoter then the color coat then the clear coat which is also very chemical resistant so it is necessary. The brake paint can handle temps from 900 to 1,300 degrees once it is cured.

And now how it all looks on the car before and after the wheels are back on her.
BTW I used Prestone Dot 3 synthetic high temp brake fluid in my system and did a total flush to make sure what I put in was what came out of all 4 wheels by gravity bleeding then pressure bleeding to make sure no air bubbles were in the system what so ever.

As you can I also had the braided brakes lines installed and I used turtle wax bug and tar remover with a cloth to clean them up like new again which was easy seeing they are coated and from TCE.

Nice job, but you do know the paint will wear / burn off of the braking surfaces.....

Nice! Gold, black, and silver, nice combo

As you can see it matches my engine compartment totaly. This is why I went with the combo on the brakes.

Thanks CBT

Yes but only on the surface of the Rotors where the brake pads rub on them. I did this on the rotors to make sure no other surface of them rusts down the road and screws up the cooling process.

Looks great Dave! Just not so sure about putting paint on the rotor surface. I think you'll run into vibrations and braking issues. Have you taken a drive since you completed the installation?

This is not the first time I have done this on a car. My friend Dave had me do new brakes on his Mustang and Acura and I did the same thing on both of them. The paint comes off where the pads seat and rub on the rotor and burns off fast from the friction.

But I have taken her out for a little ride today already to start the pad seating process yes. Once the wear down on the rub points is done I will retake pics to show what happens and how it looks.

She is braking smooth though with no vibration nor any pulsing high spots.

I did the entire Rotor so no other part of it will have any surface rust build up on any of the fins, drill holes and slots for a very long time to come.

Thanks for the comment and vote on that one!

It is why I do what I do to her for the shows and car cruises I go to every year.

But what happens happens @ the shows as long as I have a good time and my are seen and appreciated and makes people remember and talk about our Marauders.

I actually have a few clubs now that ask me in e-mails to bring her to their shows they have and some of them originally did not allow a car as new as ours and made the exception because she looks good @ the shows.

looks nice, but i would be concerned with the paint imbeding into the brakes, causing problems.

The paint can not with stand direct friction and is easily removed as the brakes are being seated.

Here is what it looks like now. Just 1 rotor dosn't have all of the paint off the friction surface yet but it is almost clean.

I just have to take a rag and remove the residue that built up in the drilled holes and slots now then it will be fine. This is my 3rd time doing this on a car so I know what to expect.

I have removed the pads before to see the surface of them when I first tried this a year ago on a friends car.

Some gold CA's would set those tyres off nicely. Talk to Tommy at Sparta he might be able to set you up with a custom color.

I have to say, when I saw the painted rotors I was shocked.

I was concerned that when the paint was in the process of wearing off, it would clog your pads and reduce your braking ability.

Glad to see it worked out. Nice looking setup.

It does reduce your breaking ability until its burned off, one accident and Law Suit here I come! Depending on the pads used you can ruin a good set of pads like this but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what ever!

looks good bud! , whats your opinion on the raybestos rotors?

They have a lifetime guarantee against cracking and warping so to me that is a good sign that they stand behind their product and work.

I put their rotors on other cars including a friends kenny bell mustang and 2 years later he has had no problems with the rotors or the pads so I would say to date they are a good set up.

You have to take a car into an industrial area with low to no traffic to seat the pads and burn off the paint on the friction surface. Granted I never painted rotors on customers cars when I was a mechanic professionally but I always took a customers car into a low traffic area and seated the pads for them before I handed them the keys to make sure every thing was good to go.

But thanks for the concern
