Has anyone bought a high output alternator from these guys before. They seem to have the best prices and they make pretty good claims.

Looks like a nice piece. Might be interested if anyone can chime in. IIRC a few people claim to be running that alt and I remember one person having a problem with it. Don't remember when or who though... failing memory at 20 can't believe it. lol

I have one. They will stand behind it. After a good while (couple of years) the regulator went out. I sent it in for repair, expecting to pay for the repairs, but they fixed it free under warranty.

I have the 250amp from DB Electrical. No problems so far.

This one - http://www.dbelectrical.com/c-6143-250-amp.aspx

I wish they made a chrome or polished one.

I'd recommend upgrading the wiring to at least 4 gauge wire.

I've had one of their high-output models installed on my Merc for over two years. I purchased the powdercoated black model.

Does this unit from DB have the clutch on it (like factory) so at WOT it will disengage?

I am not sure if it does but I can find out.

I have a 250 as well, I did destroy one of them and they fixed it for free with no questions asked. They are a good company and stand behind their work.

I am a dealer for DB and many members here have bought these through me. And they are a very good company.

If you're are upgrading, shouldn't you be able to simply change out the pulley with your factory one since the clutch function is n the pulley anyway?

I have actually purchased two of them. The first one didn't have the one-way clutch pulley, the second one did.

It does not disengage at WOT. It is a one-way clutch that allows the alternator to free-wheel when the throttle is slammed shut. The WOT disengage is purely electronic, controlled by the PCM shutting off power to the field coils.

As always - I'm impressed and thanks for the explanation. Makes perfect sense now.

Would the Trilogy "reverse mounting" method affect this alternator?

Don't see why it would... it's still the same alternator.

The reason I asked is because 2DMax went through three (yes, three) PA Performance heavy duty alternators since installing his Trilogy. (He's back to stock alt now) The company told him they didn't have an application that would work for him anymore, even though when he first bought it, he explained the Trilogy setup to them.

My own alt died on the 8 hour drive home after my Trilogy install as well.

Merely coincidence?

if that were the case i would guess all the eaton swap crew would have had this problem, prolly just a bad alt that was never rebuilt/repaired properly

Mine is reverse mounted.
