View Full Version : Lessons Learned for Rear Spoiler Installation?

I just got my Sparta Rear Spoiler painted and I'm getting ready to install.

I've been reading the heiroglyphics for installation instructions and get them but wonder if anyone has any tips/hints on the install.

Also, what I've been planning for the installation is that the spoiler is flush with the rear deck though I've seen spoilers that are a bit tilted upward.

Any guidance?

Thanks!

Mark

P.S. "The Boss" said that I can go to Carlisle!

I just followed the instructions. My spoiler is flush with the trunk.

Once you get used to the "universal sign language", the instructions are quite complete.

My only glitch was getting the nerve to drill holes in the trunk lid of my then-new car. Put some masking tape over the areas you're going to drill.

I set mine just slightly above flush...like 1/4".

I just did mine a few weeks ago. Just make sure that you coat the mounting screws with silicone before screwing them into the spoiler...Also, if your spoiler is like mine, be ready to be very patient in getting the screws to hold onto the screwdriver or socket as you put them through the double wall of the trunk lid...My spoiler install took me a while, but it turned out great!

I went to a body shop to have mine done too. I installed a ebay one already on my trunk and I just didnt want to go through it again with a new OEM spoiler in case nothing lined up.
A bodyshop don't charge much for the installation and they are more experienced.

That's been the problem - I've had it to two body shops.

The first had it for over a month and never did anything with it.

I took it to a 2nd shop (friend of a friend) and they painted it but would allwayse tell me that they couldn't do it this week - To call next week.

A month of that and I just picked it up.

What should be used on the holes that are drilled to keep them from rusting? Is it the silicone that was recommended in another response? Is this like bathtub (clear) silicone or some other type?

Thanks again,

Mark

I left the outside masking tape on the holes and inside of the trunk lid used a rubberized under coating on each of the holes.

Then when I installed the bolts for the spoiler I used normal clear silicone sealer for engines on each of the bolts to make sure there was a water tight seal that would not let water into the trunk lid and also hold the bolts in place to make sure they would never loosen up on their own.

Quarter inch drive set with a swivel and long extension for the socket helps a lot on the install.

You could use these pictures as an example. But I don't recommend it. I'd love to have seen this thing while it was on it!!!

I had a friend from the body shop I work at help me,The spoiler went on easy I would'nt take off the plastic coating on the spoiler till you got it were you are happy with it thats how I done it and it went on easy,And i also sprayed on rubberized under coating on the inside of the trunk lid with clear silicone on and around the screws for a good seal.

Are the Ebay ones just as good as the factory?? look wise. I want to get a spoiler soon but don't want to get the wrong one. Mine didn't come with one

No. They are fiberglass and have a lot of flaws in them that show up in direct sunlight. OEM spoilers look the best and are made of ABS plastic.
Sparta Performance.com can get you a OEM spoiler.

The Sparta spoiler that I got was PERFECT - Don't mess with any others.

STILL TRYING TO GET IT INSTALLED!
