I have been using the Silverstar Ultras for quite a while. I like them. be sure to use grease to dissipate the extra heat. I sell a lot of pigtails, and the hotter-burning bulbs don't last as long.

grease where?

In the bulb sockets.

Be very sure not to get any on the bulb envelope. The high heat can cause a bubble in the quartz with just the oil from your skin, so I always use an alcohol wipe after installing them.

Silverstars don't last that long, def an improvement over regular halogen bulbs though.

Alot of people say a year before they go but for 28 bucks a year to have white light instead of yellow is worth it

Silverstars don't last that long, A lot of people say that, but I've had the same set of SilverStar Ultras in Phoebe for a little over 4 years, and she gets driven at night a LOT.

A BIG +1!!!

Silverstar Ultras are overpriced JUNK!

I've run at least 4 sets of those P.O.S. Ultras before I gave up/got smart and bought a REAL set of bulbs: PIAA

I complained to Sylvania and they even sent me the 4th set for free.
Guess what?
They both burned out within a week of each other at the 'grand old age' of 6 months....

They said: "That because they run hotter you should expect a shorter service life..."

I said: "Is 6 months a normal service life for a headlight bulb????"

They said: "About a year is normal for the Ultras."

I said: "1 YEAR!?!?!.....Go pound broken Ultra bulbs up your a$$!"

BTW: The PIAAs that I have in 2 different vehicles have been running like a champ for 4+ years.
And Yes, I know not to touch/get sweat-oil from your fingers on the bulbs.

Osram Silverstar or Sylvania Silver Star? There's a mighty big difference.

It doesn't matter anyway. Save your money and go with Phillips Xtreme Power instead. Amazon also has these on sale, $31.54

Sylvania I have. I also notice before the beam would go to the mid of my jeep then after the beam went way passed the rear of it. Also a wider beam . Also the regular silverstar is 55w and the ultra is 65w more heat last less

Silverstar "ULTRA" bulbs in the dark orange blister pack.

They are extremely short lived, overpriced JUNK.

To me, the "ULTRA" ones were actually not as bright as the normal Silverstar bulbs. They are overpriced junk.

Joe, I think your experience is unusual. As I said, mine have been there 4 years...I dunno, maybe MINE are the unusual ones, but the regular SilverStars in The Blackbird have been there even longer, although The Blackbird has seen less use in the last few years.

I DO agree with ctrlraven that it seemed to me the Ultras were not as bright as the regular ones. For that reason AND the fact that they cost $10 more than the regular SilverStars I will not buy them again.

How many hours/how much night driving do you put on your Ultra bulbs?

Maybe....but after 4 sets in two different vehicles I'd say the ULTRAs are absolute garbage.
Heck, even Sylvania's Customer Support representative admitted that "they only last about a year."
The multiple sets of PIAAs that I now have are brighter and I have not lost a single PIAA bulb.

How many hours/how much night driving do you put on your Ultra bulbs?I have no idea how many hours it is, but Bunny has to attend many after-hours meetings for her work and drives a LOT at night, so those bulbs have had a good workout.
Heck, even Sylvania's Customer Support representative admitted that "they only last about a year."Either that rep was mistaken or that's the first documented case of honesty from a big company... :D

LOL.....I was working him pretty good as I had just experienced the failure of my 3rd set of those crappy ULTRAs.
I told him that I had never even gotten a full year's service out of any of the ULTRA bulbs that I had paid (TOO) much money for.
Most had burned out in 6 -9 months.
I kept asking him what Sylvania's predicted service life for the ULTRAs was.
He even admitted that I was far from the only person who had called them to complain about the incredibly short service life of the ULTRA bulbs.
I'll stand by my experience with those POS Sylvania ULTRAs.

They aint cheap but.....PIAAs FTW!

The worse was the Silvertar H1 bulbs, they lasted like 100 hrs.

So glad I went all HID.

I originally had 6000k headlights then tired 5000k cause I wanted a more pure white color and they were plus slight increasement in light out put over the 6000k. Great light out put and looks great on the car. Win win all around.
