View Full Version : 4 valve timing
Am I doing this right? Never assembled a 4V before and the shop manual is kinda vague. I have all cam keyways straight down and miscolored chain links lined up with cam timing marks on primary and secondary chains, motor at#1 TDC. Haven't installed cam followers or turned over yet, does this look right?
All so does anyone no the torque specs for the 4 large cam bolts? I bought some new ARP's but didn't get any torque #'s
What's the part # for the ARP's?

You should borrow the cam timing tool I purchased my own,it locks the crank at TDC and locks the cams in place in the rear, it's a piece of cake to align the chains and tensioners.

I used Whiteout on the chains and marks on my 2V, The 4v main chain sets up the same way. You have to separately set up the Intake chains.

NEVER NEVER DO NOT TURN THE CRANK WITH THE CHAINS REMOVED

Yes, that is correct! I know the TTY bolts are:
Tighten the bolts in two stages:
Stage 1: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
Stage 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees
Slowly rotate the crank when you are finished. I found that the shop that did the head decking and valve work installed the intake cams on the wrong sides. I found it by slowly rotating the crank and finding that the pistons hit the valves!
BTW! This is a Mach 1 engine asssembly pdf from the service manual which is the same engine:
