Ok so I'm going through the thread regarding washing the engine, and I'm really loving the colored valve covers! Those yellow ones that Embassy has...LOVE 'EM!
Now...my experience with valve covers is of the "older style" (302's and the like). These newer ones I have no experience removing. I know I'd have to take out the plugs and hoses first.
Is it difficult? Do they use re-usable rubber gaskets now?
AND because mine is an '04 (bare finish-not black like an '03), do they get painted or powdercoated? (Even polishing them back to original would be cool with me).

The drivers side is easy.
The passengers side not so.........
I had to unbolt the right side motor mount and jack the motor up to remove the CAM cover.
You can reuse the gaskets.
To make right side removal easier next time you can grind some of the bosses off inside the cover once you get it off. There was a post with pictures detailing where to grind.

^^^^ ya, I just got through reading your write-up.
But if I had shyed away from any work on my cars in the past (well anything I guess); I'd have learned nothing!

Personally I never re-use the cam cover or timing cover gaskets but I know some here have re-used the cam cover gaskets with good results.

Plus, it looks SO GOOD when it's finished!

When I did mine I did not take any chances and bought all new gaskets for anything I removed.
I also have a bit of a write up on it that might help you out.

other than a little wrestling with the right side cover it was pretty straight forward.
i also recommend replacing the gaskets. cheap insurance.

^^^^^ +1 on that polished intake hat.
I bet there a bunch of hours in that....
I thought about grinding all of the EGR tabs, and that EGR port that looks like a snake, welding the holes and polishing mine but I just don't have the time.

My Marauder's prior owner, Hwycruiser gets the credit for the love'em or hate'em yellow valve covers.

^^^ Love 'em! Those shots are what made me start this post in the first place. I'd match it up with yellow brake calipers on mine.

A member probably about 4 years ago now offered it up for sale so I gave him my stock one and some cash. Its the one thing that stands out the most on my engine. I just every now and then throw some polish on it to keep it looking shiny.
I have a spare upper intake which I wanted to experiment with polishing myself. Maybe Ill offer a exchange program for polished upper intakes :thinker:
