View Full Version : Newest Rumor About '05 SC MM
I went to my LM dealer last Friday to pick up some plugs (see other post on that subject), and one of the salesmen saw me drive up, and engaged me in a conversation about how I like the car, etc. Then, out of the blue, the salesman says, "I hear that the '05 will be supercharged."
The rumor, or information, whichever it is, is apparently getting around.

That is surprising...usually the dealers have no clue about a car's possible future. I went to the dealer a few times before the MM came out and they didn't even know when it was to debut. I knew before they did. It seems as though they need to train these people how to stay up on the info. The internet is a tool they need to learn to use.

Please tell me that John McDonnell didn't say that. He is the one at Hasset Lincoln Mercury in Wantaugh NY that has sold my dad all his Marauders. The only reason my dad goes back to him is because the guy bends over backwards because he knows my dad will buy whatever he says he will. Also, I wouldn't believe a word that comes out of that man's mouth, so if it was John who said it, take it with a grain of salt.

Considering how much 411 L/M salesmen have provided us with this past 18 months, and how accurate it 411 has been, I'd say the Marauder is dead after '04 for sure now...IMHO.

Well at the Lone Star Cougar and Marauder meeting last night, it was confirmed sortof there will be a detuned S/C 2005 @330 HP.
The person who confirmed had to go to Detroit this morning, Maury AKA cruzer know who it was.

Heck, if we keep repeating the rumor long enough, maybe Ford will start believing it and actually build the thing!
Everyone repeat after me:
SC '05 MM
SC '05 MM
SC '05 MM
SC '05 MM
Are you listening, Ford?
On the other hand, I'm sure that someone on this board who is better connected than I am knows how to contact Steve Babcock. If HE hasn't heard the rumors, then...

I'm putting a deposit down on the Ltd Ed X-100 2005 Marauder with the bling bling 19s and the cast iron Cobra motor! Or maybe the S-55 2-door Convertible with the lightly blown 3v motor for 06.
You gotta believe in the power of positive thinking!

KraziKid and his Dad:
How come you two didn't come out to the meet in Yonkers last weekend? Not a bad trip from Oceanside. Father and son Marauders would have been cool. See if you can come to the next tri-state meet. Keep an eye on the NorthEast Marauders in the Regional section!

to contact Steve Babcock try sbabcock@ford.com
Here's a copy of an email I sent to Steve Babcock this morning. He probably gets thousands of emails, so I'm not holding my breath for a reply.
Steve, a number of us Marauder owners have been hearing rumors from various sources around the country that not only will there be a 2005 Marauder, but that it will be supercharged. Someone who claims to work at STAP has posted on the internet that he has heard the rumor there, too. When I went in to my local Lincoln Mercury dealer a couple of weeks ago for service, one of the salesmen saw my car and told me that he had heard the rumor. I know that rumors, even false ones, can spread like wildfire, but with so many people hearing this, all over the country, and in Canada, I'm wondering if it's possibly true. Can you shed any light on the subject? Thanks, Ross Asher, Houston, Texas

Ok folks, I just went into the local township store and the owner says he talked to some Mercury people at the International Detroit Auto Show. He says they told him that the 2005 is a sure thing and yes it will be supercharged since most of us owners cry about low end power. Now I really dont like to say anything negative, but.... I bought this car for way more money than I originally wanted to spend because My dealer (SESI, Ypsi.MI) told me it was going to be exclusive and only be built for 2 years. Ok now I do drive her everyday almost, but only have 10,000 mi on her so far after a year. Now correct me if Im wrong, but we all have lost quite a bit on our purchases so far because of the economy- if you bought before spring of last year. Now, if they come out in 05 with a BETTER supercharged version, what will that do to the bluebook or popularity of our non SC versions? Id bet people wont want an OLD one but the new one. It did diappoint me that Mercury didnt offer a supercharged version, but I dont want my purchase to be worthless if I trade it in, ya know? Just my thoughts- flame away if u will! Believe me I do want to hear they are gonna build em, but........ :depress:

I think you're saying what a lot of us are thinking, Darth. Frankly, I'll probably take a beating on the '03 and buy an '05 if they deliver the goods...However, if they promote it like they did our cars- we'll see rebates and incentives on those too.

Very mixed feelings on this subject. Yes, I'm happy there will be an '05 Marauder with a factory (Trilogy) supercharger. That will eliminate the California emissions obstacle (assuming it will be a 50-state legal Ford product) from me getting a Trilogy blower installed on my '03 300B. Plus it eliminates me trying to find a competent installer in California. For the factory-supercharged '05 Marauders, I'm guessing that a simple pulley swap and a recalibrated PCM can easily up the boost/horsepower from its deliberately detuned factory SC install (which is quite anemic, according to reports made here, when compared to a typical Trilogy or Reinhart SC set-up on current Marauders).
The big question will be of course price. If I trade my '03 300B in sometime in '05, what number will I be writing on the check to get the factory-SC'ed '05 Marauder? Will the premium be worth getting a new Marauder with zero mileage and a factory-installed intercooled supercharger (which is rumored to be the Trilogy Eaton set-up)? My wild-azz guess would be that the number that I would have to scribe on that check would be somewhere around $20-25K or more. Consider that I'm no longer paying $6500 for a Trilogy kit and saving another $2000 on the aftermarket installation. So . . . that's $20000 - $8500 = $11500. That's (at MINIMUM) about a $12000+ premium for a brand new, zero-mileage Marauder with a factory-installed Trilogy intercooled supercharger. If the new SC'ed '05 is priced at a premium, that added cost could really start to add up. Then, I have to make sure that I still like the old Panther body style over the upcoming, all new, redesigned body for the '06s.

NBC - That is a good analogy. I think your numbers are fairly close. The figure of about 20K and the trade of a 2003 would be in the ball park. IMO.

I agree...and won't be very happy if this ever becomes official. But I still have more HP & TQ at the crank on my N/A '03 than what has been bantered around coming from a factory S/C....
But...did I mention I still won't be too happy if this does come about.

Sounds like I can pick up a cheap 03 Marauder next year. I've always been a fan of having two of every thing (excepts wives).

It really doesn't bother me. I like that there may be a 2005, especially one that's supercharged. It proves all the magazines and nay sayers wrong!
You say you were told they would only be built for 2 years. I read long ago that the plan was to build them until 2005, and I like that Ford has been able to build them as long as they originally stated, even if they didn't sell 18,000 the first year.
As for price, that's the way it goes. People are now paying much less than many paid for a new 2003. Some are paying about $23,000.
Just enjoy and have fun with your car, it's still a "limited production" vehicle!

I'm going to weigh in here...
I hope they don't produce another MM after 04. I, for once, would like to see these be collectible. I like the idea of looking back at history and repeating the success of 2-year-runs spaced apart like the 63-64, 69-70 and 03-04.
I'm all for Mercury improving the panther platform and coming out with something in '05 but please don't call it a Marauder!
