I think this is a HUGE deal. Being ahead of the Yellow Mustang Registry this year is a major accomplishment. These numbers ought to get us some premiere recogniion with Carlisle Events and with Ford itself. Proportionately based on numbers made, I think that we'd easily be at the top of the heap.

I contest that the YMR had the "Coolest Club Hangout". Where the H3LL was it? Where the H3LL were they?

I spent the weekend at the "coolest club tent" and we ALL know where that was.

Congrats to the MM.Net gang for a Great turnout at this year's Carlisle Event.

:congrats:

Either that or we set it on fire and become the "Hottest club hangout"

I'm with Chuckie on the YMR. I looked down the hill and the yellow Mustangs were all over the show field. I was talking to a guy with a newer Mustang and he said the organization of the Mustang show field was a disaster this year. He said he was parked next to a '66 on one side and a Cobra on the other.

I think unless Steve Babcock or somebody who knows people at Ford we are on our own as far as Ford giving two cents about us anymore. The Econoline guys were telling me that this is their 50 year anniversary (they still make the E-series) and Ford was going to have a special event for them until Ford also figured out it is the ???? anniversary of the Pinto and decided to honor them instead.:shake:
Oh well we had fun and are looking forward to next year and where our spot on the field will be.:)

With the numbers we put up, getting a better spot should be a given...

Besides getting a decent location, how about getting them to split the Marauder class into at least Stock and Modified? The (dying) Taurus SHO group finally got Stock and Modified Classes this year after begging Carlisle to do this for years, and they only had 9 cars SHOw up this year. In years past, SHO used to get up to 30 cars registered...Having 47 cars in one class is just wrong, IMO.

Blackened300a
06-09-2011, 05:03 AM
Rick said 2010 was a experiment with us. 2011 was the first solid year as a class. I plan to pass this on when I talk to them for next years planning. 47 registered members from a group that came out of no where within the last 4 years deserves a split class and prime real estate on the field. Ill also express that our average club member is over 40 and that hill kept 85% of our membership stuck up there and missed out on most of the show because of the walk.

2012 will bring changes for the better. I'm going to introduce new voting classes and awards, Ill ask more vendors if they wanna be involved with our raffles, I plan to get our class split and Im working on a theme for our tent next year. We killed the YMR with our numbers so Im aiming to take away their "coolest hangout" title as well.
2012 will also mark our 5th anniversary as a club showing up at Carlisle. We shall celebrate this in style. :cool4:

LOL....FastMerc, my GF and I were walking the showfield with our ballots and as we passed through the rows of different
classes the running joke became "Jeez, I don't get it...why bring so many of the same car together? So boring." ;)

As far as the hill goes, its not all bad, there was nice stuff on the upper 40 and half the lower field I don't even give a
rat's about....still so much fun.

Best,

2011 CARLISLE ALL FORD NATIONALS

I have mixed feelings on “The Hill” that I dubbed “Marauder Mountain”. Here are the pros and cons from my seat.

PROS

1. Good view overall. Can see nearly everything on the showfield from that vantage point.
2. Excellent Photo Opportunity of all the MMs lined up on the hill.
3. Can see the rows of MMs from almost everywhere on the field.
4. Plenty of parking spaces. We had about 2.5 entire rows. That is enough room for 60-70 cars.
5. Pretty good access and egress from the site. No back-ups getting in and out like 2008 and 2010.
6. Good drainage in case of bad weather.
7. Porta-Potties right across the street this year with easy access and no 3 block walk.
8. Close to the Rock Climb venue and activities
9. Close to the RV and trailer area for those who need it.

CONS

1. Distance from the food and vendor concourse, registration, car corral, grandstands, vendor area and feature displays inside Buildings T, Y and G.
2. Parking on a steep side slope for those on the grass (watch those door dings and spacing)
3. Limited foot traffic and visitors. People that make it up there are “hard core” enthusiasts.
4. Gravel on the top instead of grassy parking areas (huge 2-3” gravel at that).
5. Walking up and down that hill gets tiring but not overly so (and I am above the average age).
6. Lots of trailer traffic in the morning and evening with limited clearance for turn-arounds.
7. If you end up on the back side of the hill, it is pretty isolated.

In order of preference of the past 4 years, here is how I rate the sites from best to worst.

2010 – close to everything, lots of foot traffic. May be limited to 40 cars max. Drawback is that the lower area below the tent could become a mud pit in heavy rains.
2011 – excellent visibility to and from the site. Good showcase for MM. Lots of space; but on a steep hill.
2009 – Back side of hill. Plenty space. Few knew we were there. Far from everything.
2008 – Close to all of the action; but very limited parking and competition for space. Poor drainage. Difficult access and egress at the stop sign.

I've been at almost every Carisle since 2004 with the Marauder.. (except this year w/o Marauder) but I def think we deserve a class of our own & it needs to be split... The first few years I went they sent me into the Modified Mercury class... I did however win but wasn't correct... But back then I was at the show as the lone Marauder...

The location worked for me. ;) Other than the walk you and I took in the earlier AM before the BBQ, I never really got away from my KP duties; getting the hot dogs and burgers hot from the grills, into buns and on to the plates of all you "hungry hoards"! Wow I have never seen such a hungry crowd...and I apologize if I occasionally gave someone a dog when they asked me for a burger.:D Between the smoke from the grills and trying to keep everyone's order for food and drink straight, my head was spinning at times LOL! But at least I did see almost all of you. Anyway, Eric was left on his own for most of the day, so he went up and down the hill without me. Not sure I really minded missing out on that boatload of fun! But I did enjoy the view and the breeze and hanging with Denise and Marty. Bottom line, it was fine with me!

2011 CARLISLE ALL FORD NATIONALS

To be honest, I'd have a really hard time choosing the "perfect" spot to showcase the Marauders with the current configuration of the ALL FORD NATIONALS. Every site has its advantages and disadvantages. And, I think everyone has their own definition of perfection driven by what they would like to see and do while at Carlisle. It is unlikely that any site will be perfect for everyone. While my opinion of the desirability of the 2008-2011 sites ^^^^^^ above shows a particular order, I recognize that others may see those locations from a different perspective and pick a different order.

If this was truly an ALL FORDS show, it seems that model, year, and make diversity would occupy a more prominent place on the showfield. Mustangs probably comprise 50% of the showfield; but I have NEVER seen them on the hill in the past 4 years. It would be nice to see all of the OTHER F-L-M products down on that large flat close to registration and the action.

Maybe it just reflects the time in which I grew up; but every year I take lots of pics of the cars from the 50s and 60s. I just can't seem to get enough pics of the retractable hardtops, the Sunliners, the Starliners, Galaxies, Fairlanes, Edsels, Park Lanes, early Marauders, older Lincolns, etc., etc., etc. Beautiful and distinctive cars IMHO from a time when you could tell a Ford from a Chevy from a Dodge at a distance of a quarter-mile or more.

Carlisle could do a much better job of showcasing the OTHER 50% of attendees and let the Mustangs guys walk the hill every other year.

That my :twocents:

Regardless, I'll still have fun wherever they put us. :D

SMOKE
06-11-2011, 07:46 AM
Not a bad concept Charlie...the layout on that portion of the field is a little stale and if the 'Stangs are that much of a draw they will have good luck up on the hill. Just sell Carlisle on a "Mustang Mountain" concept and I think you've got a whole new marketing edge to push for this battery of cars and classes...

best,
Jonathan

This was my third year at Carlisle with the MM clan. Of the 3 field positions from those years, I would have to vote on our position that we had on the hill this year. And from turning the "double nickle" that Saturday, I didn't really mind traversing the hill a few times on Saturday and Sunday. What I liked about having the MMs on the hill:

GREAT view of the car show
Rain was not an issue because of the slope
If you were down in the bottom area of the fairground and looked up, you would ALWAYS see the mass of Marauders.
And I believe we had a better breeze being up on the hill vice being down in the bottom.

My 2 cents...

Hey Guys, I know two people at the yellow mustangs area. They did not have anything like our area. I don't know who voted their title as "The Coolest Hangout", but the Marauders had it nailed.
To that end, next year we need a DJ, strobe lights, Go-Go Dancers, and a Disco Ball. Quick, somebody get on Dancing with the Stars and win the ball! You have until next June to win. If that doesn't give us the title, then for sure the contest is rigged.
