Not at all. The camera person was pretty shakey and scanned back past the board too quickly.

That wasn't for time or speed. That was one of Paul's friends with my vid cam. He just pushed it through the 1/8th really to see how the new suspension was tracking that day. Awesome MM. Pics don't do it justice. Eats small children and smells of sulfur... ;)

Nice Marauder!
I love how the fat slicks are tucked up neatly under the rear fenders.
It wasn't even breathing hard to run that 1/8 mile....:bows:

Although I would've gone for a 598 CID BBF.

Is #2 running a 1/8 mile converted to a 1/4 mile times - ie. the posted video?? Where is the posted time slip and/or video which is requried by the MM Board Aministration for anyone to legally post in the top 10. If no time slip the posting needs to be removed. Also, I am not aware that non-Stock engines in MMs are even allowed on the Timeslip page (OK with the exception of the Cobra engine or maybe even the 5.0). The Board needs to post an offical ruling on this entry. If this has been done I could not find it in my search.

I'm not saying this isn't an awesome MM, very well engineered and put together - but a Chevy block! Is nothing at all sacred anymore in the MM community. Have we no standards at all? Have times changed that much! A Goverment Motors Chevy engine in a MM!

Sorry, not for me.

THANK YOU.

Jesus, someone finally sets up a bigger engine in the MM and they had to do it with a Chevy.

Seriously, why?

I love my LS1, but why ruin a Marauder like that?

Why not just do a 408 Fox like all those freakin' Mustang guys do, or a deuce coupe with a 350sbc if you just NEED to shove a freakin' chevy into a ford?

I believe it's been said before on here, but I'll say it again: big-cubes pushrod ford engine has the same potential as big cubes pushrod chevy engine. I doubt they are any more expensive either.

That makes me sick honestly. Just go buy a freakin' Impala if you need the chevy engine to go and you want a big car...

It's old news that specially a BBC is by far less expensive than a BBF.

So every Chevy 7 litre is just inherently better than every Ford 7 litre for example?

I just have a hard time believing it. I know I can't speak definitively because I haven't been doing engine building from the start, but it just doesn't click with me. Why would they be THAT different? And if it was so obvious, why would anyone go Ford? I can't help but get the impression that the reason chevy motors are in everything is because chevy motors WERE in EVERYTHING. You could pretty reasonably well count on if it had a V8 option, one of them was a 350. Does Ford sell crate motors that are built with that *****y of componentry that their Chevy counterparts of identical displacement are just better in every way?

Educate me here, something doesn't add up to me....

and oh yeh, I find it hysterical and greatly upsetting at the same time that I got razzed on for buying a Chevy by a lot of the same guys defending a chevy powered Marauder here. I thought this was the "holy grail". At least I had enough decency to sell the ****er with the right parts rather than to mangle it into some kind of bastard child in the name of horsepower...

There is more demand for GM speed parts than Ford. For example Ford's hot ticket item has always been the mustang. GM has offered many vehicles with similar powerplants that are simply interchangeble. Not everyone likes to ride around in a mustang, specially when they can buy a T/A, camaro, GTO, traiblazer SS, silveradoSS, vette, and all those engine parts are interchangeble.
And no one said that Chevy is better than Ford, but i did say its cheaper to build.

Joe Walsh
06-17-2011, 06:38 AM
All Chevy engines are cheaper to build than a comparable Ford engine...except for the FORD pushrod 5.0.

Ford '385' Big Blocks were severely hampered by crappy OEM cylinder heads and therefore not a popular 'HOTROD'/swap engine.
(Even the BOSS 429 sucked because the heads were wayyyyy too big and the cam wayyy too small for 429 cubes in a street driven car)
Nowadays there are lots of great aftermarket BBF heads, and you can make killer HP with them.

Here is my question:
If being cheaper to build is an important factor in a decision to shove a BBC in a Ford vehicle, yet the car is going to be a max effort, high dollar project/build.....
Why not spend the extra $ and put in a BBF with similar quality components???
The extra coin to build a BBF is 'pissing in the ocean' compared to the overall budget of the car.

I guess I just never got the Brand 'A' engine in a Brand 'B' car/Brand 'B' engine in a Brand 'C' car mindset.....:dunno:

I think that the timeslip page should be for all Marauders*, regardless of what engine they have.
Originally it was a given that all the ETs on the timeslip forum were from a 4.6 DOHC Modular V8.
Not so anymore.
I still hold the highest regard for Marauders that run super quick ETs with a little 'ole 281 cid V8!
(Heck, I'm already out of that league with my 5.0 build.)

*I think DOHC modular Crown Vics & Grand Marquis should be included also....that's a fair amount of work to pull off that swap!

I guess I agree with the timeslip column, if I were near the top with a posted timeslip, and someone was right in front of me with no timeslip, I could understand the concern. But engine make? If someone turned a Marauder into a jet car so they could have fun at Bonneville, would it not still be a Marauder? Perhaps the 'Induction' column could be changed to 'Engine & Induction', then people could decide in thier own mind if it is still a Marauder. A Marauder could be hampster powered, I will stick to my "What was the car called when it rolled out of the factory" stance. A Marauder, yes no?

keep in mind, we have 3 MMs but are only allowed to list one in timeslips: daily driver does 12.8; purple does 11.3 and won DOT trophy at Ford Day at LVD today; MM mutant needed a more powerful engine and the BBC was available from an earlier build that went wheels up to the crusher (moment of silence); if the car and the engine are both just sitting there...
