While at the SAAC MCR car show in Dearborn MI this past weekend (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=71742), had a discussion with a spectator ( Scott ?lastname? ) regarding the LX Sport and Marauder.
Scott was on the initial Marauder development team and noted that one of the 1st mules was powered by a Windsor push-rod V8. He test-drove it several times.
Am I the only one that this was news to ?
BTW ... Scott's Marauder - 2003 300A with 85 miles. Bought new. WiP to install a factory looking S/C and 6speed manual transmission using FoMoCo off-the-shelf components. *Hold-up on the manual transmission install is the pedal assembly; he's finicky and none of the Mustang offerings are to his liking. He's even tried off-the-self Chevy / GM ( which do have IHO the right fit ), however, refuses to compromise with bow-tie pieces in an oval vehicle.

News to me, very interesting.
Did he mention anything about the plans for the Town Car?
Intresting stuff. 85 mile Marauder, wow!

I'd heard that several engine configurations were tested in the mules, but hadn't heard that any were pushrod V-8s; interesting stuff.
Did Scott indicate whether or not the engines were SC or NA?

Ford started abandoning push-rods years ago so using a PR engine in the MM seems doubtful.
We have it on good authority that a certain MM head engineer will be at MV9 and we are trying to convince him to give a quick overview of how the MM came to be and answer the 20 or so questions he will be constantly asked. If we can talk him into a Q & A this might be a good question to ask. Would most likely happen at the awards show on Sat at the car museum.
It's my understanding that the "wish engine" the engineers wanted was the 5.4l Lightning motor but Ford wouldn't give the MM guys the budjet to massage the firewall.:bigcry: To bad too we could have had a real monster right off the factory floor.

From what I understand the early cars were used to test not just powertrain components, but other systems on the car as well. Development for the Marauders probably took years to complete... and in that time they probably went through many drivetrain configurations. It would be cool to learn these facts to help us appreciate these cars even more.
